Plasma Or LCD Make Model

Been saving for a year (X-mass fund) baa -hum-bug to everyone else Football Games

Lot's of research just need to ask my fellow fisherman advice on what TV to buy

I like the tube type in black an white...details r finer..seen color an people were all pink an grass was blue...sides,picking at the dump r free and they still work

I bought an LG brand LCD over 2 years ago , in fact it may have been 3 years on Memorial Day. Thing is great. not even a dead pixel in all this time. I also have a 4 or more year old Samsung that is also running like new.

Be sure to get 3 or 4 HDMI inputs as that what most new things use. I think the safest bets for brands are LG and Samsung. Sony stuff is always nice new but I have not pound there stuff to last all that long.

I vote LCD or maybe its LED now but not plasma. I think the LCD/LED ones will last forever.

It's interesting when you compare a good tube tv to the new stuff they're really not that bad for cable aside for the perspective. Hated to give my old Sony away. Awesome picture.

I've bought two moderately priced LG's and have had zero issues in three years.

If your going for picture quality get a sharp, i jusy bought one and i dont think i have ever seen a more amazing pic, they are a little pricey but amazing

I also have an LG LCD and I love it, 2 years and going strong. The TV is on all day long too. Kids and wife...........

I would get an LED LCD with a 240hz refresh rate

When I was at the store I couldn't tell the difference between a $2000 LED or the plasma. I have a 50" Panasonic plasma that I bought last year for $600 and it has been awesome. I have a small house and I was only going to get a 46" but the 50" went on sale for just just $50 more so I went for it and it is pretty cool. They try to sell you on 720p vs. 1080p when all broadcasts are in 720, it only makes a difference in blueray movies and even then I couldn't tell the difference. Then they try to sell you on 120hz or 240hz on the LED's when a plasma tv is 600hz (mega difference in speed). Then the difference betweent LCD's and LED's is a brighter picture, thinness and weight just because of the light bulb. Panasonic has done great things with plasma but I think they still might have a stigma from years ago. They also say when you go to a larger TV that plasma is better, why can 't they make LEDs that are just as good in larger sizes. There are other things like power usage, etc. but that really didn't matter to me because of all the money I was saving. This is just my humble opinion from what I researched when I was buying mine and you will see this debated all over the internet. It all comes down to personal taste, some people may be able see the difference and can justify spending extra money but I just decided to keep my cash in my pocket and bought the plasma. and have been very happy. Since I work with these things on a daily basis, I will add my 2 cents. First most people don't realize that watching non hi def shows on a hi def tv is not the greatest. Hidef is filmed in wide screen, hence side bars or shrinking screen on non hidef channels. If this is bothersome to you then get the Sharp Aquos. The sharp automatically adjusts for non hidef channels which is a great feature. The other brands you usually need to use the tv's remote to zoom and stretch. Most people find this to be a PIA. I have 3 Aquos tv's I had 1 with a bad tuner right out of the box, but immediately took it back to the store and exchanged it. Also regular tv on a hidef looks grainy, but when you switch to the hidef it is sharp and clear as can be. Definitely get as many HDMI ports as you can, and the higher the contrast ratio the better. Most people usually pick the biggest tv they can get for the dollars they have, problem is it usually is the bottom of the line tv for the size. Get a smaller size with better contrast ratio, faster engine, and more HDMI connections. All manufacturers will build 3-5 different models for the popular sizes so choose carefully, a low contrast ratio, slow engine one or two HDMI ports, a better contrast ratio faster engine more Hdmi ports, and then the KING of all three.


One more thing, wait till after Xmas, and buy around the first or second week before the superbowl you won't find a better deal, and they usually throw in things like Bluray disc players and surround sound......

One big difference between the Plasma and Led/Lcd is that rooms that are bright during the day, you won't see the show as well on a plasma as you would and LCD or Led. You won't notice this in the store, because the store is not a bright sunny place. Also watch for screen burn in. Also Verizon FIOs broadcast in 1080 not 720.... I have seen enough of all three tv's to know which I want, and LED/LCD is my choice.

I agree. Don't buy the cheapest big one. Decide which tv you want based on performance then shop for a good deal on that tv.

I prefer plasma. I think the picture is more realistic and better blacks.
Also more bang for your buck. I picked a 50" Panasonic for $1,100.

I have a Panasonic Viera 46"LCD I've had it just about three years and thankfully no problems,it has four HDMI connections and a camera flash card input.


On a side note when I bought this I learned that HDMI cables weren't cheap.So some one here on this site posted up a web site called Monoprice.com.
This I highly recommend,I was able to buy 1.4GBPS @ 10' and color coded for $11.34 a piece,the wall mount for the TV for 29.87 and it ranged from 36"-60" a 250' spool of Cat II 12 guage wire for $59.95 there are a chit load of other stuff on there site check it out.O and there shipping costs are fairly priced!

just picked up a sony 46" bravia lcd-love it! been buying sony for 20 years and have had great luck with them.
