red cedar ballusters

When I bought my lathe from Chef Chris several years ago he asked if I also wanted the end cuts from a carpenter friend's work with 4 x 4 red cedar ballusters. I said yes of course. Well yesterday I ran them through the table saw and now have 100 1" x1" x 7" pieces of perfect red cedar blanks for turning/building poppers in the next few weeks.

Also milling 2 1/4" x 6 1/4" 7' long red cedar plank today, one of four I have, to make up some fatter, slightly longer swimmers. Way ahead of the game this winter.

Seems like a project but oddly enough I like milling wood once I start. I usually will rip the boards just shade larger than what I need to turn.

That red cedar should be perfect for what you're trying to make.

I did some 2" sq. and the rest 1 1/4 sq.

I have two more planks that are 2 5/16" x 6 1/4 and are 6' long. Be milling those shortly just to get them done.
