GORE FOUND FROZEN

(EP) dateline ICELAND 12-16-2008

The Former US Vice President , Nobel Prize winner and Climate Change Guru Extraordinaire was discovered frozen solid on an arctic ice flow in a bizarre twist of Global Warming fate and yet another dangerous piece of misinformation emanating from Gore’s top advisor on Climate Change. The details are sketchy at this point but according to sources that refused to be identified, AL Gore had grown annoyed recently with the abundant evidence that the planet is in fact cooling. After proclaiming just days ago that both polar caps would completely melt within five years as much of the US was plunged into record cold temperatures with significant snows falling as far south as New Orleans, ice storms ripped the Northeast and record cold temperatures being felt in from Denver to Texas. The former VP was also disturbed by recent polls showing that 60% of Brits believe that AGW is a scam and most of the world was unwilling to accept that their exhalations constitute a pollutant that should be heavily taxed and regulated.
Apparently, the last straw for Gore was a weeks old report of Narwhales trapped in ice near the Arctic Circle. Gore proclaimed that “there is no ice up there”, a claim that was apparently spurred by a report from one of his top advisors who had transposed his August 2008 records onto December 2008, showing December as the hottest December on planet earth since the Big Bang.
Gore family members divulged that Mr. Gore climbed aboard his 110ft Green Houseboat named the “GOREVIDAL” and headed north to prove the reports of existence of ice anywhere on the planet to be completely false and to finally disprove the “deniers”. It was also reported that the Gore family pleaded to Mr. Gore to stop and reconsider but their attempts were met with repeated claims that “NO CONTROLLING LEGAL AUTHORITY IN THE UNIVERSE COULD STOP HIM!”.
From what authorities have been able to piece together so far, it appears that Mr. Gore houseboated north until a cloud passed over which interrupted the voyage on the solar powered vessel, a back- up generator which runs on bio- diesel was apparently of no use as the former VP had used all of the bio-diesel to deep fry his 6 meals a day. One investigator reported “he even deep fried his desserts”. The combustion engine back up could not be used because Gore was 6 months behind in paying his Carbon Credit Tax Payments and those things are evil anyway. The vessel appears to have drifted into an ice flow where Mr. Gore likely disembarked while wearing only a GORE 2000 tee shirt, his Nobel Peace Medal, shorts and sandals and wandered out onto the ice pack . It is believed that starving polar bears ate the rope that linked anchored boat to the ice as it was made entirely of HEMP prompting on investigator to suggest that” it was very lucky those bears didn’t get the munchies and eat Mr. Gore”, another commented “when we first saw him there we thought it was the Michelin Man but then we notice the tee shirt and medal and immediately knew that we were dealing with a real celebrity”.
In a strange twist of fate, the houseboat was restored to full power when discovered adrift as the weather had apparently "changed".

so mean spirited during this holiday season

Over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. The skeptical voices of over 650 prominent international scientists, including many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN IPCC. The over 650 dissenting scientists are more than 12 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers.

The media's climate fear factor seemingly grows louder even as the latest science grows less and less alarming by the day. (See Der Spiegel May 7, 2007 article: Not the End of the World as We Know It) It is also worth noting that the proponents of climate fears are increasingly attempting to suppress dissent by skeptics. (See UPI May 10, 2007 article: U.N. official says it's 'completely immoral' to doubt global warming fears)

Once Believers, Now Skeptics

Geophysicist Dr. Claude Allegre, a top geophysicist and French Socialist who has authored more than 100 scientific articles and written 11 books and received numerous scientific awards including the Goldschmidt Medal from the Geochemical Society of the United States, converted from climate alarmist to skeptic in 2006...

Geologist Bruno Wiskel of the University of Alberta recently reversed his view of man-made climate change and instead became a global warming skeptic. Wiskel was once such a big believer in man-made global warming that he set out to build a “Kyoto house” in honor of the UN sanctioned Kyoto Protocol which was signed in 1997. Wiskel wanted to prove that the Kyoto Protocol’s goals were achievable by people making small changes in their lives. But after further examining the science behind Kyoto, Wiskel reversed his scientific views completely...

Astrophysicist Dr. Nir Shaviv, one of Israel's top young award winning scientists, recanted his belief that manmade emissions were driving climate change. ""Like many others, I was personally sure that CO2 is the bad culprit in the story of global warming. But after carefully digging into the evidence, I realized that things are far more complicated than the story sold to us by many climate scientists or the stories regurgitated by the media...."

Mathematician & engineer Dr. David Evans, who did carbon accounting for the Australian Government, recently detailed his conversion to a skeptic. “I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian government to estimate carbon emissions from land use change and forestry. When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty conclusive, but since then new evidence has weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause. I am now skeptical,”...

Climate researcher Dr. Tad Murty, former Senior Research Scientist for Fisheries and Oceans in Canada, also reversed himself from believer in man-made climate change to a skeptic. “I stated with a firm belief about global warming, until I started working on it myself,”...

Botanist Dr. David Bellamy, a famed UK environmental campaigner, former lecturer at Durham University and host of a popular UK TV series on wildlife, recently converted into a skeptic after reviewing the science and now calls global warming fears "poppycock."...

Climate scientist Dr. Chris de Freitas of The University of Auckland, N.Z., also converted from a believer in man-made global warming to a skeptic. “At first I accepted that increases in human caused additions of carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere would trigger changes in water vapor etc. and lead to dangerous ‘global warming,’ But with time and with the results of research, I formed the view that, although it makes for a good story, it is unlikely that the man-made changes are drivers of significant climate variation.”...

Meteorologist Dr. Reid Bryson, the founding chairman of the Department of Meteorology at University of Wisconsin (now the Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, was pivotal in promoting the coming ice age scare of the 1970’s ( See Time Magazine’s 1974 article “Another Ice Age” citing Bryson: & see Newsweek’s 1975 article “The Cooling World” citing Bryson) has now converted into a leading global warming skeptic.

Global warming author and economist Hans H.J. Labohm started out as a man-made global warming believer but he later switched his view after conducting climate research...

Paleoclimatologist Tim Patterson, of Carlton University in Ottawa converted from believer in C02 driving the climate change to a skeptic. “I taught my students that CO2 was the prime driver of climate change,” Patterson wrote on April 30, 2007. Patterson said his “conversion” happened following his research on “the nature of paleo-commercial fish populations in the NE Pacific.”...

Physicist Dr. Zbigniew Jaworowski, chairman of the Central Laboratory for the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Radiological Protection in Warsaw, took a scientific journey from a believer of man-made climate change in the form of global cooling in the 1970’s all the way to converting to a skeptic of current predictions of catastrophic man-made global warming...

Paleoclimatologist Dr. Ian D. Clark, professor of the Department of Earth Sciences at University of Ottawa, reversed his views on man-made climate change after further examining the evidence. “I used to agree with these dramatic warnings of climate disaster. I taught my students that most of the increase in temperature of the past century was due to human contribution of C02. The association seemed so clear and simple. Increases of greenhouse gases were driving us towards a climate catastrophe,” Clark said in a 2005 documentary "Climate Catastrophe Cancelled: What You're Not Being Told About the Science of Climate Change.”...

Environmental geochemist Dr. Jan Veizer, professor emeritus of University of Ottawa, converted from believer to skeptic after conducting scientific studies of climate history. “I simply accepted the (global warming) theory as given,” Veizer wrote on April 30, 2007 about predictions that increasing C02 in the atmosphere was leading to a climate catastrophe. “The final conversion came when I realized that the solar/cosmic ray connection gave far more consistent picture with climate, over many time scales, than did the CO2 scenario,”..."

What's funny is that this issue used to be scientific, a long time ago.

Then the energy industry got involved and started funding opposing "research" and PR campaigns.

Then pundits like Limbaugh started preaching that it's all a hoax intended to extract wealth from Americans.

The message is attractive to some not because they've evaluated the science, but because the opposing political position doesn't require a PhD to comprehend. If Liberal celebs are behind it, it must be bad for America.

I'm sure there are credible non-believers, science isn't a perfect thing. But to throw out stats like we had 650 authors and the UN report only had 52 is so stupid my 5 year old would raise an eyebrow.

The trend lines still clearly indicate there's a giagantic issue the planet needs to deal with. Mocking the dilema and attempting to kill the debate is only going to leave our children less prepared, regardless of the true causes.

Scott, thanks for helping to make my son's world a little more crappy.

Potentially the greatest cat. to the planet in our lifetime. Maybe we should put our heads in the sand instead of trying to do something about it.

Spence;
Thats why this isn't the place to actually have a debate on this issue.
People have their mind made up based on their favorite talking heads; EVEN though it is not nor should not be a political issue. JoeP and I even agree on that (not the climate change part, BUT doing the right thing for the environment, regardless of overall cause)

I always come back to a Chip Giller quote on this issue:

"So-called "global warming" is just a secret plot by wacko tree huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start 21st-century industries, and make our cities safer and more livable. Don't let them get away with it!"

No Such Thing.....These guys at NASA are just a bunch of Crackpots

Over 2T tons of ice melted in arctic since '03

WASHINGTON – More than 2 trillion tons of land ice in Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska have melted since 2003, according to new NASA satellite data that show the latest signs of what scientists say is global warming.

More than half of the loss of landlocked ice in the past five years has occurred in Greenland, based on measurements of ice weight by NASA's GRACE satellite, said NASA geophysicist Scott Luthcke. The water melting from Greenland in the past five years would fill up about 11 Chesapeake Bays, he said, and the Greenland melt seems to be accelerating.

NASA scientists planned to present their findings Thursday at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco. Luthcke said Greenland figures for the summer of 2008 aren't complete yet, but this year's ice loss, while still significant, won't be as severe as 2007.

The news was better for Alaska. After a precipitous drop in 2005, land ice increased slightly in 2008 because of large winter snowfalls, Luthcke said. Since 2003, when the NASA satellite started taking measurements, Alaska has lost 400 billion tons of land ice.

In assessing climate change, scientists generally look at several years to determine the overall trend.

Melting of land ice, unlike sea ice, increases sea levels very slightly. In the 1990s, Greenland didn't add to world sea level rise; now that island is adding about half a millimeter of sea level rise a year, NASA ice scientist Jay Zwally said in a telephone interview from the conference.

Between Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska, melting land ice has raised global sea levels about one-fifth of an inch in the past five years, Luthcke said. Sea levels also rise from water expanding as it warms.

Other research, being presented this week at the geophysical meeting point to more melting concerns from global warming, especially with sea ice.

"It's not getting better; it's continuing to show strong signs of warming and amplification," Zwally said. "There's no reversal taking place."

Scientists studying sea ice will announce that parts of the Arctic north of Alaska were 9 to 10 degrees warmer this past fall, a strong early indication of what researchers call the Arctic amplification effect. That's when the Arctic warms faster than predicted, and warming there is accelerating faster than elsewhere on the globe.

As sea ice melts, the Arctic waters absorb more heat in the summer, having lost the reflective powers of vast packs of white ice. That absorbed heat is released into the air in the fall. That has led to autumn temperatures in the last several years that are six to 10 degrees warmer than they were in the 1980s, said research scientist Julienne Stroeve at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo.

That's a strong and early impact of global warming, she said.

"The pace of change is starting to outstrip our ability to keep up with it, in terms of our understanding of it," said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colo., a co-author of the Arctic amplification study.

Two other studies coming out at the conference assess how Arctic thawing is releasing methane — the second most potent greenhouse gas. One study shows that the loss of sea ice warms the water, which warms the permafrost on nearby land in Alaska, thus producing methane, Stroeve says.

A second study suggests even larger amounts of frozen methane are trapped in lakebeds and sea bottoms around Siberia and they are starting to bubble to the surface in some spots in alarming amounts, said Igor Semiletov, a professor at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. In late summer, Semiletov found methane bubbling up from parts of the East Siberian Sea and Laptev Sea at levels that were 10 times higher than they were in the mid-1990s, he said based on a study this summer.

The amounts of methane in the region could dramatically increase global warming if they get released, he said.

That, Semiletov said, "should alarm people."

"If you're arguing with an idiot, make sure he isn't doing the same thing."

Scott, thanks for helping to make my son's world a little more crappy.

-spence[/QUOTE]

what did I do to make your son's world crappy? I am far more powerful than I imagined!

I think that what is frustrating for some is that both sides do have their minds made up as RIR said when there is hardly the "concensus" that King Al claims....Dad, that's great stuff but is it Hansen at NASA has screwed up quite a bit like recently declaring, what was it, October the hottest on record by transposing numbers from the previous month, he been shown to have a clear agenda, but doesn't everyone now...noone wants the environment...or "your son's world", Spence...there's something very revealing in that statement now that I think about it....to be crappy but the extent to which Kyoto and and many of the other proposals would damage economies makes no sense...hope the messiah is as reasonable, might have no choice given the current economy

In a December 17, 1962 interview, President Kennedy was asked whether his experience in the office matched his expectations. He answered this way:
The problems are more difficult than I had imagined them to be. The responsibilities placed on the United States are greater than I imagined them to be, and there are greater limitations upon our ability to bring about a favorable result than I had imagined them to be. And I think that is probably true of anyone who becomes President, because there is such a difference between those who advise or speak or legislate, and between the man who must select from the various alternatives proposed and say that this shall be the policy of the United States. It is much easier to make the speeches than it is to finally make the judgments. . . .
Indeed it is.

No, you just seem to take more pride in mocking the personalities than understanding the issues, and in doing so it kills the debate.

I'd like a real debate that can lead to productive actions.

wow, I waited a while to see if you hit the softball out of the park and no contact....hummmm...that was a Christmas present too...
are you just grumpy because it's snowing like crazy in Las Vegas?
Everyone seems grumpy....
whose personalities have I mocked? it's not like I'm the one telling others that the must be smoking crack or that they are either on or need drugs or professional help or suggesting that they are making the world more "crappy"....still don't get that.....please tell Spence Junior that I'm sorry for crappying his world...I love you Spence, you are my buddy...we could be like the Odd Couple...you are the really neat guy...I'll be Oscar...
I actually thought your shot at me about the Hannity doll was pretty funny and I was proud to see you attempt a little humor...I didn't whine about the Anti-American thing or call you McCarthy....personally, I'm not a big Hannity fan but maybe Laura Ingraham and Elizabeth Hasselbeck dolls for a threesome would be outstanding...maybe Ann Coulter but I can't stand her voice...
beats the lefty threesome...let's see...how about a Rosie O'Donnell, Madeline Albright and Hillary blow up doll contingent....yuck...
now I know why they're always depressed on the left....

my advice is don't worry, be happy

GET OVER IT...YOU WON!!!!

there may be a bit of pain as Obama said till he gets things going and redistributes that trillion bucks and socializes and nationalizes all of the economy but that won't take long once everyone is on their knees.....we know that you have to tear it all down before you can build it all back up but in the end we'll be living in the greatest Socialist Kyoto Compliant Utopia on earth...we will finally be just like Europe....I see no reason for gloom among those that seem gloomy...just be patient...there's nothing to stop them now....I do wish that Franken had won(althought he still might steal it) and that Saxby had lost (that damn Sarah Palin) giving the dems 60 seats in the senate because THEN we could really get what we deserve and there would be not a Republican in sight to blame if things happen to go awry....I still believe in America!

The sun is defenitely hotter on the skin then it was 30 years ago when there was no such thing as AC on the Cape and you needed a sweat shirt at night.

On the opposite side it's snowing in Malibu and the Calif. desert right now.

Know one knows for sure what the reasons are, but if Gore really believes in what he's preaching he should stop fllying as one 747taking off is the same as 10,000 cars starting their engines.

McCain believes that climate change is real. If he had been elected, he was going to take steps to reduce emissions.
Its right there on the McCain/Palin Website
We're past the point where a person can take the position that climate change is a hoax and expect to get elected to a national office. Its a closed issue. Kids in grammer school are studying the effects of climate change in science class.
Liberals and tree huggers want the talking heads of the right railing on against it so they can more effectively paint the right as anti-science.

I agree, Joe. Something is happening for sure, but how much is man made and how much is a natural cycle?

The ice age wasn't caused by man.
