Found my first glass orb

Thank you Nebe. My wife found our first glass orb after years of searching. She screamed when she found in in the enchanted forest. My son is psyched too!

Are you sure it's authentic? Once the secondary market for these things erupted there's been a flood of knock off orbs from polish foundrys.

Cool project. Eben, you might want to update your photo.....

Ha! That's an old one.

Last night I was incredibly blown away when I checked my email. The fundraising platform I use sent me an email telling me that they just donated 1k to the project because they thought it was such a special thing. What started as a fun little thing 6 years ago is now a very serious thing.

Pretty cool Eben. You wouldnt believe how many times it comes up in conversation. Just the other weekend someone at a cookout was like "hey have you heard about the guy who put those orbs around block island?"

Nice job,

Next time I go to BI fishing, I'm gonna contact you for some hints where they are hidden.

It isn't littering or dumping if you are placing individual objects that you WANT someone to find. sort of along the lines of letterboxing and geo-caching...you hide objects (boxes in these cases) that you WANT someone to find.

That, my friend, is truly a labor of love....and the craft involved in creating those artistic treasures.

Hint:....They're on Block Island....what else do you need to know?
The site link provided pretty much all the clues you need, except the time and the desire to walk around and look....

Red,
The "Power's that be" (Block Island Chamber of Commerce, Town Council, etc) are huge backers of this project as it promotes tourism and
acts as a catalyst to get people out into open spaces by staying active. That said, I've never found one and have spent more than a few hours looking - seems I tend to focus more on finding bass and get tunnel vision. I can see a washed up plug in the wrack line at 30 paces on a new moon but can't see a glass ball in the noontime sunlight for the life of me.

Ahh. Before I hid the very first one, I went to the town and asked for permission.

Despite the rumors, it's always better to ask for permission than ask for forgivnance.

That is so stinking cool! Hope it goes well. What a great idea.

You do this every year?

Nebe, my wife really likes that stuff. Do you sell online?

Hey Spence- I hear that the Polish knockoffs have the vineyard on them instead of BI. I looked at the tree the orb was hidden in and thought to myself that it was a cool tree because of the markings but I did not see it. My wife looked up 6" higher and saw it. Also realized that they are harder to spot while wearing sunglasses. I have been trying to post a photo of it but I am unable to with my iPhone. We felt like we won the lottery. By the way, my wife donated to the fundraiser and received special access to the Facebook page that gives clues on where they are hidden. Donating is a "win win".

Yes Eben does crazy nice work. I had him do two terrariums for me, one as a gift for my sister. There is a special satisfaction that comes from making beautiful stuff.....

Yes - he does spectacular work! And the Glass Float Project is a great and novel idea.

Should fill 'em with Whiskey, that will drive tourism

Awesome scavenger hunt, not only for that young couple in love or the veteran couple on a weekend get-away, but also for the family as a whole....very nice indeed.

Question: So 550 Orbs are hidden each year? Or since inception?.....seems like a lot if per year??? I know you want them to be found, but then again not too soon?

......it finally happened, there are no more secret spots
