Personal Tragedy......Kind Of!

We have a rubber membrane on the raised roof on the back of our house.....every winter the snow that gathers on the roof melts and slides off to the ground in huge chunks! Well.......this winter we had a good 12 inches still on the roof and it had frozen solid and has been falling in chunks some that weigh I would guess over 150 pounds! Last night the majority of the remainder of the snow fell and there were 2 huge crashes while we slept (they woke us as they were very loud as they crashed to the ground) I got up this am after the second crash and looked out back and the 1st crash had taken out my outdoor shower stall!!!! So I guess I will just have to build a nicer one! Blessing is I was going to have to dismantle it anyway so I can reside the house so......not that big a deal I guess? $100 worth of stockade fence and my time. The block that took it out fell perfectly inside the stall and blew the walls out!!! The piece must weigh a good 300 pounds....I am just hoping the deck is reuseable.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I sure hope you find another shower to use for your monthly cleansing until you get the outdoor one re-built. Sorry for your loss!

Sorry for your loss, Larry. I guess on the bright side, at least you weren't in it when the ice fell.

This is kind of funny, only in a small sense of the word, because I have been giving some thought to building one myself, because yours was so nice. I figured I could wash off the ditch slime when I got home like you. Need any help when it gets warm let me know.

I think your Mrs. Might appreciate a roof of some sort on the new one. Just saying..You might make it so that a sliding ice load slides right over.

If it had a roof it would have been worse. Remember it was about a 4' by 5 ' by 12 inch block of solid ice probably weighing 300 pounds easy falling from a second story roof? See usually there is not so much snow and ice build up so what little usually falls off the roof simply splits into pieces on the top of the stockade and does no harm. I wish I could post the pics I took of the block of ice sitting inside the split stall! My computer is having issues. I will rebuild.....and it will be awesome! Nothing like having that outside shower!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

you should run AV, Malware, Spybot, at a minimum. You shouldn't go onto the internet without protection. ITD's are everywhere

Yep , my first thought was that it landed on a pet.

As far as the shower stall goes , I'm sure the second one you build will take into account all the shoulda, woulda , coulda's from version 1. Version 2 should be a real beauty!!

Let's help Larry get all the shoulda, woulda, coulda's:

hot water!
add a sauna!

An open roof is my favorite part of an outdoor shower. Nothing quite like standing under the hot water on a cool night, looking up at the stars.

Yup! There will be a few changes.....already have hot water Phil??? Ya think I am a caveman or sumthin'??? An outdoor shower with no hotwater is simply called a hose!

Yeah no roof.....that would make it an indoor shower! Nothing like coming home from a night surfcasting foray cold and damp and taking a hot outdoor shower under the stars.....with an ice cold bottle of beer!!! Oh yeah!!!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Sorry about the accident, I am glad there was no other damage. This thread got me thinking of building one myself. It would be great when the kids come home from the beach (no sand in the tub). Plus there is nothing better than taking an outdoor shower.
I was thinking 4x4 pressure treated for framing and as stated stockade fencing for wallls but what about decking, drainage, etc.? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thx JP

I just built a small pressure treated deck approx. 5 x 5 and it just drains into the soil below! 4 x 4 PT is overkill. I used 2 x 4 PT at the corners secured to the inside corners of the deck platform and attached the stockade to those.

Exclamation

make sure your not standing barefoot on pressure treated
because pressure treated means chemicals forced in by pressure.

those chemicals are real BAD for humans ...large pores on feet in
hot water will allow feet to soak up residuals ,,, NOT a good idea.
