Chicago

Heading there in 10 days for a few days, before heading to Summerfest in Milwaukee.

Anyone been there? Suggestions on things not to miss out on?

Chicago is a great town. Some very good museums and the zoo and aquarium are great. It's really turned into an excellent food town. Very good bars. If you like to daredevil go to the skydeck at the Willis tower. I've never done it but have heard it's worth it. There's a ton of great architecture and nice parks. Even though it's spread out a lot of downtown is very walkable.

Great city. Visited last July when my daughter was based out of O'Hare flying for American. Happened to hit Taste of Chicago, which was awesome. Beef out there is so much better than what we are used to. Nice folks and good bars and restaurants. A lot of festivals that I will post a link to for you to look through. Waterfront is great. I enjoyed the architecture of downtown and the history of how it was rebuilt after the great Chicago fire. Next time I would do a river tour and go to a Cubs game.

My son's classic comment to his sister was; I didn't know you had an ocean out here...…….

We have good beef here it’s just expensive. Pork on the other hand is a different story.

I absolutely plan on checking out the skydeck - they have the option to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner up there - but $300 for breakfast is a bit crazy.

Noted to be sure to check out the burgers while we're there. We land the night of the 25th, and drive up to Milwaukee on the 27th. So a day and a half worth of time here. We're flying in and out of O'Hare as well.

The Pier sounds like its a must see thing as well.

Visit downtown & the outskirts many times per year on business & pleasure (my brother has lived in area for 20 yrs).

Depending on where you are staying, downtown is usually a 40-60 minute drive from O'Hare. I usually take the train (Blue line connects airport & downtown).

Walking along Michigan Ave is great to take in local architecture but also check out the waterfront from Shedd Aquarium (south of river) north to Grant and Millennium Parks, Navy Pier just north of river (a lot of renovating these past couple yrs), up to Lincoln Park Zoo.

That's a lot of area to cover but you can't go wrong poking around that general area from sites, food, drink, etc.....

And don't forget the obligatory picture with "The Bean" (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park

Willis Tower Skydeck is cool too. Scary as hel for me since I hate heights and you are basically walking into a see through glass cube but the views on a clear day are spectacular.

Thanks Moses!

Chicago was nice - I liked it! We were actually staying in Rosemont, next to Ohare.

We checked out the Pier which was nice. We didn't end up making it into the city to do much more because 1) it was really hot (feel like temp was 102) and 2) other plans. Also went to Giordano's for pizza - which was rather incredible.

Thinking of road tripping out there next summer. Maybe we can check out those sites then

Curious how many times you’ve been there and when.
