Jitterbuggin'

The last two summers, when I start to hate striper fishing, I've been switching back over to the yak and and fishing first light with rubber frogs and poppers in the ponds around here. Last year was such a blast and it really got me back into sweetwater.

My girlfriend's parents live on a private lake, and last night her brother who has fished the lake his entire life, took me out in the canoe for some night fishing. As much fishing as I've done in my life, I've never gone out in the dark and thrown jitterbugs from a canoe before. What an absolute blast it was. We went out right after the storm and hammered fish on the black jitterbug. We were anchored up off a point where there is deep water and then a flat. Fish were blowing up everywhere so all we had to do was fan cast. We were only out there for an hr or so after dark, but we had double digits of small to medium size bass (and some monster bluegills!).

I know most people on here know the jitterbug to be a staple in their tackle box. Guess I'm a little late to the party But it was cool to me because it was like fishing a danny, seeing the v-wake in the dark, and then having a bass crush it. can't wait to pull an all-nighter out there soon!

Jitterbugs are awesome. Just a few nights ago, similar situation. Out on the pond where my daughter lives fishing rubber lizards doing "okay". Right around dusk, I'm looking in my tackle box and see the jitterbug sitting there. Very first cast a nice bass slammed it! Then it was on!!!
Like you said, just watching that V wake and having a decent bass come up and slam the jitterbug=lots of fun. My grandson's eyes were bugging out of his head with every strike.

TDF is a master at it. Saw him pull a 6 lber out last year. Piglet.

Still trying to sculpt a fly that will do something similar, albeit with not much success.... Going to try some obnoxious divers this year, might work.

It was like that last night! As soon as it hit the water you would hear a fish blow up on it. Or just two cranks, BAM.

I have about 6 that i just found in another tackle box in my parents' shed so I'll be back out there tonight. We were out for an hr earlier today right before the t-storm and we got a bunch of fish. Some awesome structure on this lake. Got the royal tour earlier. Pumped for tonight!!

Luv the jitterbug and hula popper. I'd like to see one of the plug guys make a big salt water version of jitter bugs.

I don't blame you

The last two nights were two of the most fun outings I've ever had, both fresh and salt. Really looking forward to the next heat wave and the new moon in a couple weeks...
