Eben, dont feel bad, i'm in the doghosue too

My wife wants a baby, and I said no, im not ready.

And she asked why not...

I already have a stepson that's 10yrs old, and a son that's 10yrs old from another relationship, so I have two boys.

I mentioned something about kids cutting into my fishing time, and that didn't go over too well with the missus.

I keep telling her that I'd like to have a baby with her.. (we've never had a baby together) but I'm just not ready at this time in our marriage to have one, there's so much that needs to be done before having one.

Couldn't have picked a more wrong thing to tell her

Try being a single parent of 2 kids and then tell me how much it cuts into your fishing time

Well, I guess I did say the wrong thing.

But alas, I think my wife is in a very forgiving mood today, she just bought me lunch and told me the car insurance was paid for, and that she knows what I got her for Xmas... and I'm like, WTF!! how do you know what I got you for Xmas... and she said something about a phone call!... dammit, I told the jewelers NOT to call! but I guess the jeweler got me out of the doghouse right quick...

Jugstah,

Wow, definately the wrong thing to say. It is sooooo freakin easy to say the wrong thing to wives.

What you could do is get a vasectomy secretly.........and then tell her you want more kids. ...............that could be fun.....until she catches on....

He might as well sign his own death Certificate if he pulls that one.....

Notaro, don't want to take the risk when there is a lot to do before being ready to bring a child into this world.

Eben, I know what you're saying. I do have quite a lot of nieces/nephews.. I lost track but probably about 14 altogether and it's been such a privilege watching them grow up.

I think maybe in the spring, I'll reopen the discussion with teh wife about it. I think she's just eager to have one more baby before she feels too old to have one.. (she's not even 30 yet!)

I don't think that maneuver will go over with the wife. She'll castrate me!

I think Eben hit it on the head...no-one is truly ready to have a child.

Did you ever see the movie "Parenthood"........I like the Roller Coaster

Good Luck

Jugstah,

I know that move won't go over to well. Just a little lite side humor.

I think the other guys are right. You are never "really" ready to do it. Yes it is really going to impact you fishing and such for a bit. I have a 4 and 5 year old and this fall was dealing with half day Kindergarden talk about not have time to go to certain fihsing spots on the boat before the bus is back. Wifey works full-time and I'm on my off rotation. I get less fishing time now than when they were infants. As you already know raising kids is a challenge. Awesome one minute and the next you want to pull your hair out.

You and your wife have got another good 5 or 6 years to think about it. Good Luck, Jon
