I remember when we left for the persian gulf we emptied out one of the holds of the ship and stocked it with beer.....probably 2000 cases of brew.

Rules are you're not allowed to drink on a Navy Vessel.....so the Old Man would hire a Barge/Scow to pull up beside us and we would all go down and stand on it and have a couple of pops....man those were some of the best tasting beers ever.

I dunno, Karl - Colt 45 could get your attention - and so could Haffenreffer if I remember right -

Of course, that could also be the reason why I don't remember right...

Hey Dad - don't the Brits still allow a daily ration of grog to their seamen under way?

pretty sure they still do...don't know if its grog....plenty of beer though

Did a NATO cruise once with ships from differnet countries working together as a task force. Got Hammered on the British ship one night in port drinking Bass on tap. Almost stepped off the liberty boat right into the drink until one of my buddies grabbed me by the flap on the back of my uniform.

Drank on a German Ship too...they had a fridge in their berthing area that was stocked with Becks.....worked on the honor system, take a beer and just put a check mark next to your name...settle up on payday
