So here's a question

I got stopped by a rookie cop at 2;45AM this morning. In the wilds of Burrillville. Stopped for a red light at the corner of Central Ave. and Rt 102. I could see 2 miles in either direction. I stopped as I said absolutely no cars on the road and then "ran the red light." Naturally some rookie cop is hiding in the bushes and pulls me over.
here's my question:
I have a right to "plead guilty with a good driving record" No violations in 3 years. BTW, I have NEVER had a violation. None, NADA, NEVER. If I go this route there will be no record and I pay court costs. If I don't I mail in a $85 fine. The problem I face is in order to "plead guilty with a good driving record" I have to appear in court. Probably an all day event.

What would you guys do?

No boat, back in the suds.

It is not an all day event, be the first to show up as it is first in to get called first.
Secondly there is a camera recording the most unusual cases for TV and knowing that you like the limelight you can arrive at an idea.
Go for it.

Just go to court and cite the good driver rule. It won't take as long as you think...

This applies to the Providence courthouse of which I realized later that the citation was issued in another county. Hopefully the same rules apply the first in the first out. In any event it beats having your insurance premium increase if you chose to not go the clean driving record route.

Here in EG it is also FIFO. And it is usually after work hours. And even if you are last in line you only end up waiting an hour or so...

i can't believe he wrote you up for that.... What a tool.

Need to find out what exactly the consequences are. Here in Mass. you would want to avoid any sort of moving violation, or they kill you on points, ie. insurance surcharges for years.... Any way of seeing the Burrville chief and asking his advice, given the hour of the citation? Maybe he could have the officer not show up in court?

in RI you get one free pass every 3 years. Unfortunately, you can't save them up...

Case dismissed, pay court costs. I'm trying to remember what the court costs are. I think maybe it was $38?

Yeah Paul go pay court cost. Simple. I did after getting pulled over in Providence at RISSA show couple years back. Took advice of RS ticket and it turned out good.

I don't see how you could possibly consider any other choice but to get off on the good driving record , pay the fee and get away from the whole thing.

Definitely do not send them a check and opt for the court date... I had a 83 mph aerial radar ticket on route 93 near Concord, NH and the ticket was for $300 ... I went to court and had it reduced to $90 but was not able to get it down to a non moving violation. I was in and out in 45 minutes

Remember that despite the LAW it's always the driver's Choice
to make decisions on whether to come to a quick stop or try to squeak thru a
changing traffic light considering what is the safest thing to do....
that being SAID.........
Also,You can say you did a quick stop considering you were the ONLY person out on the road
and no one's safety was in any way jeapordised.

Ha, I tried telling that to a judge and he threw the book at me.

The worst part was, the Middletown cop who pulled over clearly knew I got stuck in the light and even gave me some excuses to use before the judge.

What a joke.

Interestingly enough i was headed down to T F Green today
and speeding a bit ,going along doin 70 in a 50.....
and this guy in a SUV (in front of me)starts moving over left in a hurry
and i then saw some staties parked along side worcester on 295....
bustin people

so the cop whom i never saw exactly because my vision was blocked by the huge SUV
was stepping out into the freeway trying to FLAG both our asses
over for a citation and we kept on a Goin hee -hee -hee

i was just staying out his way but it turned into a very SLICK maneuver indeed

At that hour? Cop was hunting drunks, you got the unfortunate circumstance of blowing a light which basically he can't ignore.

Rolling stops at stop signs? Not signaling? Those will get you a warning when they see you're not a drunk. Blatantly blowing a light? Not so much.

I'm going to court. I will ask the judge to address the court as I did stop and wait for the light to turn green. I will also sight my good driving record and pay the court costs.

a good idea considering the insurance company frowns heavily
on running stop light violations because that could lead to a major
T-bone accident with serious injuries (in their view) .....
so hope for a "reduction to a stern warning".
considering all the circumstances

I could be wrong , but I thought the good driving bs was only good for speeding less then 5 over the limit? So speeding 15 over , running reds , etc don't count.

Don't think so...I got pulled over doing 46 in a 35 in Tiverton at 1am and had it tossed by citing the good driver rule.

Of course, I forget to re-register my car and they had to impound it

You should have seen the cruiser taking me home with surf rods out the back window
