Temperature has ice fishing on hold

Who would have thought 50 degree days in January?
The rising mercury may be very welcome to most residents, but certainly not to ice fishing enthusiasts!
Unfortunately, the DEEP's Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) had no choice but to cancel this year's Family Ice Fishing Derby that was scheduled for January 28 due to the lack of ice.
It seems that the only fishable ice in Connecticut is located in the northwest portion of the state. Maybe next year CARE will have the opportunity to host the Family Ice Fishing Derby at one of those first-to-freeze lakes!
