Would you do this ?

Coming back from a job in Newport. Right off the T wharf on prudence Island . 1000 yard from shore all alone water temp 43. And a full outgoing tide and just started blowing 10 15 knots. Sure he had a life jacket on. But unless he’s attached to his kayak if he goes in the yaks going one way he’s going the other with the tide .. and once we went by.. no other boats in sight

I say Dumb move. Tis the season of people being fooled by sunny days

Having had been a die-hard striperman (surf & boat), I think we've ALL done some stupid things in our lives...

Back in the day, if you didn't....you weren't hard-core enough.
However, age teaches you otherwise....but to answer your question, I did...but wouldn't anymore.

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

My rule of thumb out yakking on my own is never to go further out
than you can swim in if you fall in. In 43 degree water, that would
be maybe about 100 feet if that. That guy took a serious risk with
his life doing that. If he gets a 40 lber on he could go in. Striped bass
are great to catch, but not worth dying for.
