stripers on pogies in CT river

last weekend, I took my older 2 on a trip with Captain Mike Roy (a real up-and-comer if you don't know who he is, he's getting very well-known) fishing the mouth of the CT river. Short half day trip. We found some pogie schools with his electronics (it was very cool, there wasn't one pogie on the surface, without the side sonar you'd never have had a clue they were there), 2 throws of the cast net and we were all set.

We live lined them in only 12 feet of water, and man it was fun, landed 8 or 9 stripers, lost a few more, brought in one pogie head so there were at least some blues there.

I only held a rod for a few minutes, it was more fun for me to photograph them, but I got very lucky with a 40-plus pounder. Took two slot fish home for the grill.

They left their phones in the car, nice to connect in the outdoors for a few hours. And the river in that area is a nice place, very pretty spot.

Mike Roy (Reel Time Charters I think is the business name) is a young guy, tons of energy, seriously dialed in to the fish in that area, and a master of using electronics to maximize your chances. Fishes on a nice 23-foot Pathfinder deep V.

He just bought a 27-foot conch that is almost ready to splash. Can't wait to fish on that beauty.

Mike is a stand young man. Met him.years as a new young member of CSA. He has the experience and ambition to successfully run a successful charter business. Ive been out twice with Reel Cast and always worked hard to find fish and came away with a fun experience.
Jim those are great pictures with your boys. Keep em coming.

we should talk more in this forum.

I thought i lived fishing before i had kids, watching them enjoy it brings it to an entirely different level.

My youngest only likes it a little. my middle guy likes it a lot, my oldest was always obsessed with it until he turned 15 , now friends and girls and football and cars are a higher priority, which is normal but still stinks. but he liked this trip.
