George Jones dies

Probably one of my favorite singers. Also a huge f'up alcoholic. RIP George Jones.

In her 1979 autobiography, former wife Tammy Wynette recalled waking at 1 AM to find her husband gone: "I got into the car and drove to the nearest bar 10 miles away. When I pulled into the parking lot there sat our rider-mower right by the entrance. He'd driven that mower right down a main highway. He looked up and saw me and said, `Well, fellas, here she is now. My little wife, I told you she'd come after me.'"[8]

My favorite country singer. Had a great voice that was filled with emotion. The album Alone Again is a classic. Was not served well by the Nashville production style during his CBS period although there are plenty of great tracks but the early stuff was fantastic.

Another piece of the fabric of our musical history gone.

For what ever reason I don't find modern writers have the ability to tell a story the way the writers of previous generations did. The ability of some of these great song writers to project imagery and emotion through lyric and melody was incredible.

Sad day
