Anyone going to see Further at the Orpheum?

Just noticed they're playing the Orpheum on March 4,5,6. Been listening to some real good live recordings of them lately, but ticket prices seem real high at $100 and up. Might still go for old times sake. Anyone else?

Here's my "official" show review...

This band was simply brilliant, I couldn't give the show a higher rating. They played an inspired show replete with all the late 60's Dead classics....Viola lee, Dark Star, The Eleven, St. Stephen, Mason's Children, King Bee, Alligator, and more...

...as we were kicking back after St. Stephen, the telltale clock intro to Pink Floyd's "Time" started coming through the sound system and the place went #^&#^&#^&#^&house as the drum intro ensued and Phil cranked up the bass..

This was a show for the ages, Imo...of course you'd have to be a Dead fan to appreciate it, but we had a kid and his gf sitting in front of us who had never seen the Dead before and he was crapping himself...

Last Night
03/08/11 (Tue) Oakdale Theatre - Wallingford, CT
Set 1: Mississippi Half-Step > Easy Wind, Operator, Oh! Darling (1), Reuben and Cherise, Dark Hollow, Money for Gasoline, Foolish Heart

Set 2: Jam > Hard to Handle, Smokestack Lightning > Spoonful > He's Gone (2) > Lovelight > Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain, Days Between > Eyes of the World > Sugar Magnolia E: Johnny B. Goode

I enjoyed the show. First set was really tight and the MHS--> Easy wind was outstanding. Set 1 was pretty short. Set 2 I was less into, although one of my friends liked it better. For Me, hard to handle into smokestack was too much Bobby. I felt this way most of the 2nd set. He's gone was great. Lovelight was better than I had anticipated and scarlet-->fire couldn't have been better. Eyes was decent with a good keys feature, but Phil's singing wasn't great. Sugar mag was also only ok for me. Too much bobby talk singing, and by that point the Hurley-from-lost and his girl friend back up singers were driving me nuts with the fist pumping and stuff. Sugar mag also had a bit of a gospel choir feel to me, which I again attribute to back up singers, although I think it was mostly there was too much of them in the mix. Left early to beat notorius oakdale traffic jam when J-b-good started. All that said, overall a very good show and way better than most Phil, Ratdog, Furthur etc from the past. Fake Jerry is worth seeing and I actually thought the show with him was less of a cover band feel than past shows w/out him. If you have not seen a show in awhile, you will be presently surprised. This band has really got it together as well as one could hope.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

Jackbass, when the "Fake Jerry" (John Kadlecik, formerly of Dark Star Orchestra) is in full mimic mode I don't think any normal Deadhead can tell them apart. Even if you are REALLY sensitive you'll struggle.

I haven't seen Dark Star Orchestra since he left, I'm hoping to not be disappointed when they come around. They are a strong overall band so I'm sure it'll be fine. May 4th at Lupos.

You won't be disappointed. There is a reason the ny run this weekend is sold out. They have got it together. I just think they need more JohnK and less Bobby, but I am not a big fan of Bobby vocals. The show I saw was great, overall.

Had to bump this up after listening to the Sirius Dead Channel yesterday.

THOUGHT I was listening to a tough to place but hot early 80's with great sound quality show or possibly a very focused Jerry late 80's or early 90's show. If you've listened to the Dead for a while, you can usually ID an era fairly easily.

Went over to the Sirius box to take a look- the show was last year...

my good fishing buddy henry is like, REALLY into the dead, he got his tickets months ago

Every time i go fishing with him he gives me a SB of some dead show from the late 70's early 80's. he's got a rediculous collection of sound board shows

something clever and related to fishing

Another great performance by Furthur.

Really cool scene last night with three generations of deadheads traipsing around the place. Lots of folks were revisiting their lost youth.. I actually ran into a couple real old friends I hadn't seen in almost 20 years, guys I attended a bunch of dead shows with back in the mid/late 80's.

The band really laid it down with a funky, jazzy setlist (Aiko Aiko opener) which was unlike the Orpheum show that featured a much more raw, powerful, and old school vibe.

Highlights for me were kick ass versions of "Hard to Handle", "Estimated Prophet" followed by "Scarlet>Fire".

Definitely a winner. Can't wait to see them again.

Over and out...
