96 chevy s-10 clutch

Truck was running fine today, parked and went for a walk with the girl on cliff walk. Come back and start it up and go to drive and the clutch is slipping bad. It would shift, but not get going and would rev up high. I had no problems with it up till today. Is it normal for a clutch to go like that? Or maybe something else??? If it is the clutch, $400-500 w/labor?

Tyler, does the pedal feel lower than it was? If so, may have a hydaulic fluid leak. Is it slipping when driving or will it just not disengage to allow u to shift? Will it try to creep forward at a stop with clutch pedal down.. Info, info, I need more info.

although your post seems to indicates the clutch is not engaging? I have a feeling u mean that its not disengaging to allow shifting, is this correct?
I think it sounds like the Clutch slave cylinder is shot. They go exactly like that. not too hard to replace. Ive done a few.
A clutch does not wear out like that, its very gradual. Ive got 235K on mine and she is just now slowly starting to slip. It takes many miles for the Clutch disc to wear.

Here is a pic of what the part looks like.

you can drive w/out hydrolic/slave cyl/cable etc.. if the clutch is still good.
jam it in first and start it up, use the starter to get you rolling in first gear, then your off.. just have to shut it off at red lights.
there's ways to shift w/out pushing the pedal.

slipping clutch will stink too.

Pedal feels the same. It wont creep forward when the clutch pedal is down. It slips when im driving, when in 5th gear it revs up high and the shift up light comes on, does this in all gears . It moves , but not above 40 mph , i made it home . Did i douche the clutch discs by driivng home ??? I can shift to neutral , and it idles. Doesnt seem to engage all the way when i shift, gets going but revs up really high. Not what i need with the gf here from poland, and having just spent $$$$ for x-mas , and to boot just got laid off thursday!! thanks for the help

So if its the slave cylinder, is that something me and my father could replace in my driveway fairly easily? How hard is it to get too? Trying to figure out if i should get a rental today. Figure if i cant fix it with my pops, im not gonna be able to get it into a garage till the end of the week with monday being a holiday.

Depends on year...
Something a few years newer than your S-10 is probably in the 5-8 range.. I looked at a couple at Frenchtown Auto in NK, but decided to get newer (not new), like Basswipe said, it's piece of mind....

I concur.. If the clutch pedal feels the same it is probably tranny... Pedal would feel like Mush if it was hydraulic.

It'll cost that in parts for P-plate, disc and throwout bearing, and with 160K alot of other broken sh$t. Now add labor.
