BF Tuna Endangered List

Read an article in the WS Journal yesterday that scientists feel the stocks are too low and additional damage to the species from the BP oil spill may lead to adding BF to the endangered list.

Of course that will only apply to the US. They can still decimate whats left of the schools across the pond.

The U.S. government will wrap up public meetings next week on whether to recommend declaring the Atlantic bluefin an endangered species. If the government declared the fish endangered, it would bar fishermen from targeting the fish in U.S. waters. An environmental group filed the request last year, claiming in part that the western-Atlantic stock of the fish, long believed to spawn only in the Gulf of Mexico, would "be devastated" by last year's spill from a blown-out BP PLC well.

Anyone else heard new of this?

Things done at the last possible minute are done with the greatest possible information. Procrastination is, therefore, the most efficient means of doing things.

If this happens, BP should be forced to compensate local BFT fishermen/charter companies for lost revenue just as they did with the fishermen down there.

The Center for biological diversity,is the greeny group who started THIS particular petition.Anyway, they pretty much admitted today in an email that a bft esa would make it easier to impose future snctions on the oil co's.
They don't know or care about the realities of the bft. They want to stop oil drilling.

And dude. This group doesn't know,or care about the plight of the bft,but are willing to use it as a means to an end to support their final goal.Have you any clue about the effects of an unwarranted esa on bft?Financiallly, alone,it's immense.

All and ESA listing will do is keep U.S. fishermen from catching them (and maybe stop all fishing where someone is likely to catch one.) All of our quota will go to Canada, Mexico, Panama, etc and they will catch the fish.
