Very cool. Congrats to her and her parents.

Not easy to do. My neighbor's daughter is #2 out of 152 at our high school down the road and I don't think there was any chance she could have caught #1. FWIW, she was wait listed at Wake Forest and is attending Northeastern instead.

My twins aren't the same kind of scholars, coming in at #20 and #60, but what I did learn from the past year+ of the college selection process is that kids will get money - in some cases - a lot of money for academics.

For any of you guys reading this thread who have younger kids, don't be afraid to ride your kids like a cheap circus pony when it comes to doing well in school.

That's the only reason she's able to go to WF......they threw a healthy amount of cash at her and when the dust settled it was cheaper for her to go there than UMASS....

Exactly!

My wife and I are both UMass Amherst grads and we are rather disappointed at the lack of merit money our flagship state university offers top scholars.

Our sons are attending private colleges for less combined than the price of them going to UMass Amherst.

A lot of things factor into such an accomplishment; congratulations to everyone involved - teachers, parents, and above all, your daughter.

Nice job!

Enjoy her speech at graduation and take it all in for that will be an experience that will last a lifetime, quite an accomplishment.

Thanks for sharing and congrats!

Kevin,
My daughter also received great offers from schools outside NE
They want kids from the northeast and will give them more to attend.
Duke wanted my daughter and the offers came in fast .
