Home heating oil price

Just paid 2.46/gal. Got .15/gal off when paid within 24 hours, gave the driver a check.

Great link James. Question about home heating fuel. As with gas and diesel grade do manufacturers make a difference in quality. Diesel fuel, off road and home heating oil are the same with just a chemical die added so they can tax it differently.

So the question is does buying from these mom and pop guys make a difference when burning it. Does it clog easier? Require more maintenance? Not burn as hot?

Thanks Skip,

I personally have been buying from a mom and pop place (not listed there but very competitive pricing) and my cleaning / service guy is a different company. Since I made the switch, he hasn't said any different when I ask about how it looks / is running. There may be additive for gasoline like cleaners etc but I don't think oil. I think the price difference is just overhead, and margins. Also for instance my place won't do the pay ahead thing, its a pay as you go deal. I think that eliminates some risk for the company having to hedge etc so it may effect price.

Skip, I have been buying from a Mom and Pop for 10 years since I dropped Petro the crook. No issues with furnace nor anything associated with it.
They clean and service it every may for $89.00, Check my central air and just do a great job. Cash only, no cc.

No boat, back in the suds.

last year I ended up using Aurora last year , But they took checks . It looks they are all going to a CASH price & a CHarge/Debit price ..................... there are a few gas stations around here that have been doing that for the last few months .

$2.33 yesterday.

All depends whether you are on a service contract or not. I am on an annual service contract, I am not home all the time. So 24 hour service if needed and with the contract they pay for all the small part failures....solenoid valves, circ pumps, sensors, hydro tank replacement....they pick all that up.

But you are paying 2.33 (automatic delivery) vice 2.19 from a mom and pop call service.

One of my clients is an Oil Dealer in Eastern RI. He does not lock people in because of swings like this. He is not the cheapest but he does have one of the better companies in that market I am told. They have a great crew of people, mostly family, working the company.

Bob, how many gallons have you taken delivery of? I would suggest you call to opt out of automatic fills and tell them you will call to take your balance (when the price rises again...) Then call one of the cash low priced guys. Maybe Peterson will renegotiate with you....

There's usually an opt out clause but it will cost you like $300. Probably recoup that over two tanks.

Peterson has been a BITCH since the kids took over. The father used to re-negotiate years ago but since then, doesn't. We have to sign a contract etc. and have already pre-paid. Their answer is that I could have opted for the $250 marked flux plan but I NEVER saw it getting this low! I guess it's good and bad. Years ago, we were locked in at $3.20 or something when it used to tickle $4.00 so we made out. Just hurts seeing this!! lol
