Big fan

Joe Jackson's Jump and Jive album, although it came out in 81, he was ahead of the curve, is a great album and I listen to it often. I luv bands with multi members.

not sure if this is under the classification of swing, close enough for me, but this band is awesome.

another Gordon Goodwin. This band is tighter than the bark on a tree.

Louis Jordan I love. Probably more Kansas City than swing I guess but a really great band with a sense of humor. Highly recommend the anthology Let the Good Times Roll on MCA Decca.

louis jordan is an unsung hero of american music. I love all his stuff. I would put him in the swing bucket. He really is one of the fathers or rock and roll. If you like that stuff check out Jay McShanns band from KC. Charlie Parker is like 18yrs old on some of these recordings and its amazing to hear him play.

but.... (just so Dad F doesnt think I just pick on him)Cab and Jordan are not part of the 1990s swing revivial..........they were the originals

Modern version of swing: Kid Creole and the Coconuts. One of the best band live I have ever seen. Late 70s early 80s tough to beat but they were too eclectic to be easily categorized.

most people think of the big bands for swing, but I like the small combo stuff. Django Rheinhardt is swing in its purest form. And with the swing revivial a lot of bands resurfaced that type of music. heres a few I've seen.

A little western swing mixed in - I love these guys

A little western swing thrown in again. One of my favorite live bands seen these guys a few dozen times in small clubs

There is a collection on Capitol called Kansas City Blues that I have and love that has 16 of Mc Shann's tracks on it along with Tommy Douglas and Walter Brown. Great stuff!
Dad F: I am with you on Brian Setzer. To think that I guy who had a career and fame already would go back and take music composition lesson for two years so that he could do the big band stuff just shows how dedicated he is.

I love the stray cats, setzer is an amazing guitarist. imagine growing up and everyone is trying to play like clapton, page etc and here is this kid learning swing, rockabilly, jazz lines. there are a few versions of him playing the tune "sleepwalk" that amazing

yes indeed. even his non-speed demon stuff is very subtle, and the tone from those guitars rocks....

read an interview about his Tat's...

He said his old man said get as many tats as you want, just none where a judge can see them; no hands, no neck.
