If it was up to any of the surrounding towns whether or not the casino gets built it never would. All the heartache and no prize.

How come

There is no uproar about the lottery, I dont see anyone robbing banks to get another scratch ticket, and oh my god the prostitutes running around the local grocery markets oh yea lets not forget about the drug dealers who sell drugs to support there keno habit keep reading the papers and these stupid opposition reports.

How about Middleboro having a 1500 room destination resort with Top name stars, Pro Golfing,Museum,Water park and fine dining etc! etc! casino slots is just 1 component of this, a billion dollar resort with all the offshoot business to surrounding areas come on. People cant afford to rent in surrounding towns they will travel in from more affordable areas I see surrounding towns getting something under the infastructure excuse will it be used for that I doubt it I see new raises coming onboard for surrounding town folk LOL!!

The difference here is that the tribe doesn't need a YES vote to build. The YES vote will just speed up the process for a full license.

A NO vote will not stop the tribe from building. But will drastically cut the monies Middleboro will recieve from the casino.

NH and Maine both said no way too.
Lost oppurtunity as far as I am concerned.
NH has Dog tracks, horse tracks, "non profit" poker rooms, Power ball, tri state and many other new and old State lotteries. Scratch tickets up the quzoo...but a Casino...Oh my...The Violence, the Homeless, The drugs, The starving kids, The dirty streets, The traffic, The tour buses loaded with fine older people cashing in retirement checks....whatever.
The roll of the Dice, the green felt everywhere, the pretty girls handing me free drinks, the wife winning on her favorite Wheel of Fortune machine ding ding ding...We Have A Winner.....I'll vote yes and I don't even live there.

that's the point that is going over everyones' heads including most of the voters of this town The more I learn about it, the more I lean towards agreeing with the agreement the town and the tribe came up with so we don't end up with squat if the vote doesn't pass. they will just build it anyway once they become a soveirgn nation.

That is the hard part of it. It would really suk to see the town lose out on much needed money. From what I read a while back (I may be wrong though) the town doesn't have the money to replace the Fire Chief.

The money being offered will definately help the town. All you can hope for is that the casino isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

I lived in Reno and Las Vegas and they each have many casinos. People learn to cope with traffic. Good luck.

Oh and crime, prostitution, illegal drugs aren't as rampant as some believe. Reno is actually quite a nice city. Eventually I will be moving back there.

Mac

I lived in Reno right across from the Peppermill love that town.
Now on to Middleboro If the agreement says 4% of rooms will go to Middleboro, well its a no brainer, fill the rooms!! how you ask! Hmmm Water park, Golf, CONVENTIONS and shows!! It will bring in off shoot businesses to help fill those rooms, sell them more land to build a convention hall, Middleboro could be the richest town in Mass plus other surrounding areas would be building hotels resteraunts etc! Think of oppurtunities here.
If anything Vote yes and get your up front payments and hope the land does'nt go through the process but dont vote NO and get nothing and still have a huge bingo hall like ledyard did and then eventually they give them slots and the town gets nothing in return.
I was there last night I have been Pro all along its my business.
I feel like the others if there is a speck of a chance any possible senario it could be built anyway I want to get paid for it.
Vote yes 28th its the best bet for this area.

Why do people actually take the time to vote "undecided". If they are not decided yet, they should just wait and vote after they make up their mind.

People in town who vote against it are only hurting themselves, either they build the casino and the town makes money, or they build it and the town gets nothing.

Mike is there any truth to this or is this a lie also?

http://cfowebmaster.blogspot.com/200...they-come.html

If Middleboro says "No" to a casino, will the Wampanoag come and build it anyway? That is what the pro-casino people are saying with such regularity that it has all the hallmarks of an organized campaign of disinformation. In fact, I've heard this old chestnut rolled out so many times I was beginning to doubt myself and decided to read up on this specific item.

The short answer is if middleboro says "No", the tribe will go elsewhere. This is nothing more than a scare tactic. They want us to think that we have no choice and had better sign the agreement "or else". They don't want an honest count of who wants that casino, they want a count of who feels forced to vote for an agreement out of the fear that we'll get nothing if we say no.

Glenn Marshall has said many times that he will not force a casino on an unwilling community. That alone should be enough to convince anyone - we know what a great "steward of the land" he is. There is a video of him saying so on CasinoFacts.org and there are multiple interviews saying the same thing. There is good reason for his seeming benevolence. Getting the land put into trust, which is required to have gaming, will be essentially impossible without a willing host community. Now you're saying "Oh sure - you just don't want a casino and you'll say anything to stop it". Here are the facts and you can judge for yourself.

The Wampanoag need to place their casino on a reservation. They don't have one. The federal government needs to put land into trust. "Land Into Trust" will convert private land into federal land. The federal government will then allow the tribe to use it and control it. They won't actually own it but may use it as if they do.

In order to have land put into trust, the tribe must fill out an application explaining what they plan to do with it, state and local considerations, and environmental impacts. At that point, the federal government will notify the state and local governments that a trust application has been received. At this point, the state and/or local government may make a case as to why this land should not be put into trust. We can't just say "We don't want gambling", we need to provide evidence as to how it will negatively impact our tax base and jurisdiction. Well folks - if we don't have an agreement in place the cost of hosting the largest casino in the world will most certainly impact our tax base.
The exact law that covers this is the Code of Federal Regulation section 151.11 part D. It says
Sec. 151.11 Off-reservation acquisitions.
The Secretary shall consider the following requirements in
evaluating tribal requests for the acquisition of lands in trust status,
when the land is located outside of and noncontiguous to the tribe's
reservation, and the acquisition is not mandated:
(a) The criteria listed in Sec. 151.10 (a) through (c) and (e)
through (h);
(b) The location of the land relative to state boundaries, and its distance from the boundaries of the tribe's reservation, shall be considered as follows: as the distance between the tribe's reservation and the land to be acquired increases, the Secretary shall give greater scrutiny to the tribe's justification of anticipated benefits from the acquisition. The Secretary shall give greater weight to the concerns raised pursuant to paragraph (d) of this section.
(c) Where land is being acquired for business purposes, the tribe shall provide a plan which specifies the anticipated economic benefits associated with the proposed use.
(d) Contact with state and local governments pursuant to Sec. 151.10 (e) and (f) shall be completed as follows: Upon receipt of a tribe's written request to have lands taken in trust, the Secretary shall notify the state and local governments having regulatory jurisdiction over the land to be acquired. The notice shall inform the state and local government that each will be given 30 days in which to provide written comment as to the acquisition's potential impacts on regulatory jurisdiction, real property taxes and special assessments.

We are going through an ugly battle that has practically destroyed our town before the socio-economic wart known as casino has even arrived. If we say "No" and make our case to the federal government during the trust application, this land will not be put into trust. There is study after study after study that shows the negative social and economic effects of casinos. We can easily demonstrate that the casino will have disastrous effects on the town - particularly if we don't have an agreement that pays us money to mitigate the effects.

Beyond all the legal mumbo jumbo just use some common sense. The casino developers behind the Wampanoag tribe would not be giving us millions of dollars if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

Now you're saying. "OK, so the trust process will be difficult without our cooperation. Just look at Ledyard and Montville - they didn't negotiate before Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun and they got nothing". The reason Ledyard and Montville got nothing is because the tribes were building on existing reservations! An agreement with the host community is only required to put the land into trust.

Pro-casino people who stand to gain financially from a casino that will ruin our town and social well being can continue to call us liars for telling the truth. And that truth is: IF WE SAY NO, THEY WILL GO AWAY.

So the next time someone rolls out this old threat you will know that they are either misleading you, misinformed, or both. At that point you should call into question anything else they are saying to sell this socio-economic Chernobyl to you.

some more stuff I was wondering about also

Myth 3: We need to get this resolved quickly!
Correction, the Board of Selectmen and the tribe want to resolve this quickly. Union members, people with land to sell, and school officials who see a "golden egg", are also eager to get this done quickly with minimal time for people to study a proposed agreement. Most Middleboro Residents want time to look over a proposed agreement and fully understand all of the impacts before moving ahead. This process has been opaque and rushed like nothing I have seen before. The BOS and Jack Healy have sold land to the tribe without a public hearing. They made an offer to the Mashpee Wampanoag to host a casino again with out public input. And they have made every attempt to finalize this deal without going to a vote. Now they are telling us we will only have maybe 5 days to review a proposed agreement prior to voting on it? The reason the current Board is rushing into an agreement is because after Sept. 29th there will be a new board after the recall election to replace three pro-casino selectmen. If this is such a good deal for the town, why not give time to evaluate and debate it?

Myth 4: We can have a Town Meeting vote on July 28th
The BOS have scheduled a town meeting they can not hope to accomplish. Our IT Director, Mr. Brunelle, stated the two-way video system will not be ready in time for July 28th. Mr. Bond stated there is a distinct possibility the agreement won't be ready by then. They have many logistical issues to work out anticipating a record town meeting crowd including seating capacity, parking, handicapped access, emergency services, and communication. The casino developers have every reason to move quickly, with our premature agreement they can move through the land trust process much quicker and have a much better chance of approval. The Board of Selectmen scheduled a Town Meeting to vote on an agreement they have not finished negotiating and without working out the logistics of such a large meeting.

Why are our Selectmen rushing us through this severely limiting public input and time to study a proposed agreement? We need to have time for public information sessions, public input sessions, a town debate, and proper set up for such a large historical meeting. This has the possibility of changing Middleboro forever, we should be allowed time to have due process, it's in our U.S. Constitution.

Honest to God if there was even a doubt about them coming I would have to vote yes and get the upfront monies and fight the land taken into trust.
As far as I know everything is a go for the 28th They are working with Galvins office to make sure it goes smooth the opposition where the ones asking for a town meeting they asked for an impact report they got everything they wanted except they didnt expect it to be so one sided PRO now grab at anything to try and sway a vote.

If your whole elected Town officals are for this Support them. If you where at the selectmans meeting last night you would have gotten a real view of Bellanger I cant believe hes heading this opposition up he so helped the pros last night with his act.

This is the exact

Words I heard.
Adam Bond said that his impression having been closely involved with the tribe it that they definitely plan to come to Middleboro.
Right from the pro website.

This from me
I believe in my opinion Its there ancestral land The Goverment gave them rights and they can build class 2 gambling now without State approval so why not!

They didnt buy all that land and not expect to profit.

You know....Just a thought. My family and I camped seasonal near Foxwoods for about 10 years..We visited Foxwoods about 3 or 4 times a season with the kids..Never had a problem..Never saw "ladys " in the evening..Never once saw any problems..Pretty well self contained..Plenty of on site parking with shuttle buses to the front door..On site hotels with the same.It is like there own little town...In my opinoin it would be a shame for Middleboro to lose any money already agreed on...Vote Yes

I'm going where I'm going...

Last call at the Courtyard rest. down the street is 9:30
what do you expect from Mayberry?

we used to have a Rich's dept. store, but wallmart put them out of business

I wanted badly to go to the meeting last night but I have other commitments with my family so I could not go.

I just spent hours reading the agreement and I will be sending a letter to the town addressing my concerns and request.
Water consumption is a huge concern of mine, it will affect the piss poor quality of my water already and I don't need it getting worse.

I will be at the meeting on sat. if I have to walk there.

I still don't want a casino in my town or in this state, and I am still not sure how I will vote. I feel like they are forcing this on us.

I've been there and I agree it is nice. Don't put your car in Valet parking though, if they smack it up on you they will go thru your glove compartment and find old accident reports that were long since taken care of and repaired and try to weasle out of responsibility for your new damage by the valet guy sounds like they can invade your privacy because they have their own rules in their own private Idaho That happened to my brother and he didn't take any crap.

I just think the whole thing has been rushed by the outgoing selectmen, there was no need for this nonsense, we should have time to absorb all the facts.

A friend of ours is a secretary and is doing this as a volunteer and has such demands on her the past few weeks it's rediculous. This issue is too important to rush it thru, it makes my buul sheet meter light up to question it because of that.

A casino nearby is gonna be awful for compulsive people that can't control themselves, when it's 2-1/2 hours away, atleast it's less tempting, but this close, then it's gonna hurt alot of good people.

The town should be able to get out of debt the right way, not some easy way out.

By using that rational, why dont we further develop orleans, truro, welfleet, p-town, bourne, sandwich, etc etc...

actually bourne has the outlets, so i guess i can get jeans there.

i dont care too much about the casino, if its not middelboro, it will just be the raynham dog track... im just playing devils advocate..

if anything, im sure a casino needs techie people... be nice to have a 10 min commute.... traffic nonwithstanding.
