Repaint your own engine cowling

Got a price of $700 from local body shop to do repairs and repaint my sunbaked 1993 Yamaha 200 engine cowling. Not happening. So a little research and ordering/sourcing paint in rattle cans at reasonable prices got me underway. Removing the decals (and glue) is or can be the most difficult part of this. If they don't peel off easily with hair dryer or razor, get an eraser wheel that goes onto drill chuck. I had spent two hours with heat and razor blade to get less than 25% off before I gave in and borrowed a tool actually designed to do just this job... Was done in five minutes! So look at some of the videos. Ignore the negative comment from THT crowd. Spend the extra time focusing on prep and repairs. Mine needed some glass work along the bottom. 600 and 1500 wet sand paper for a better finish than 320 shown in some videos. (my gasket was not stapled, so was easy to remove, clean and will install with some adhesive.) Not adding decals for time being...
I say go for it...

Ray, I could not remove the black plastic with the 200 on it, so just taped over it before prep and paint. See how I like it without adding any other decals for now. I de-badged the hull of the Grady stripes and name, de-badge my Tahoes usually, might as well go and leave this as it sits...
