Skin Plug

Hey Newell Guy, Love that skin plug you gave me to try. Great action with an 18 in skin on it. Do you have any that come closer to real eel colors. The smaller fish hit it this AM and one good follow from a bigger fish but no take. Fished it off a rock pile up here out into some real deep 30ft waters and it looked to pull fish from down deep. The real color will be for dark on a moonless night.Am gonna try it with a large skin 24in and see how it works. Also do you plan to make any on a little bigger size that will matck bigger skins. I was thinking about draggin one down deep behind the boat with a sinker in front of it to give it a try. Well I told you I'd get back to you on it. Hope this helps with your building . If you need some good larger flies let me know. The Striper Maine-iac

I only do them in black or blurple. As far as dragging it behind the boat it will whirly bird. I made some for a friend of mine last summer and weighted them heavier in the rear. These worked dragged deep. The one I gave you was made for casting and is weighted in front.

skin plug

I had feeling you'd probably made some like that. Got a couple more fish on it this AM . The plugs holding up great. Tried some experimenting with the eye for depth and action. Got it to dive to about 3 feet on a faster retreive but the fish would just follow it The place that I was gonna try trolling one of those is called The Graveyard as it's a long section of ledge along the shore. Real hard to fish . The way that plug worked with a skin may be what the DR ordered. Most other skin plugs I've used either go too deep and get hung up or or belly up a lot . Do you think your weighted on would work in a place like that ? The water goes fron 7 to 24 ft with some places shallower 4ft that you have to troll around. I fish these rocks from both shore and boat and there's a lot of good fish hangin by the humos you just can't reach them that well.

You could try taping 1/2 oz of lead to the tail and then putting the skin on it. Should have the same results.
