License plate mount
I need your opinion/advise.
My rear license plate bolt (6mm, 25mm) broke. I ended up breaking the extracting tool in the bolt.
The trunk side has a welded mounting nut with about 1/2 of the bolt protruding from it. However, I can't get to it because there is sheet metal covering this location. I tried a bi- metal hole saw but it was useless to cut a hole so that I can get to the bolt. I gave up on this approach.
How would a body shop mechanic remove this spot welded nut? (You can see like "raised weld type marks" on the license plate side.)
Can it be removed from license plate side and what would be the consequences ?
Also, any other ideas given this situation?

get to the back of it{access hole maybe?} and vise grip whats left of the bolt. and take it out that way.

another hole just to the side move the plate over/up/ whatever that would be the eisiest. two new holes

RR, its a car w/ a "trunk" not a "truck".
FF, there is no access hole behind bolt its covered w/ sheet metal.
New holes maybe an option, I seen online a bracket strip with 4 holes. Two are to mount to car the other two are for the plate.
Any other ideas.

Maybe you could drill out the old bolt and retap the tread, I know there is a hardened piece broke off in it now but with the right drill bit you can do it.
You can drill the spot welds out or use a hammer and chisel and split the 2 metals I think the hole saw should have worked maybe it was dull. The other thing is to use a self tapping sheet metal screw and just use a new hole.

I ordered a license plate bracket. It is a plastic bracket with holes for mounting a standard plate to the bracket and a long slot for mounting the bracket to the car with sheet metal screws.
I learned by my mistake along with gaining a little more experience and wisdom for the next time. It could have been worst like a engine bolt.
Now I can go back to thinking fishing.
