Facebook this is wrong

Facebook lets users opt out of facial recognition - CNN.com

So if someone takes my picture and uploads it now they're going to facial recognize it and violate my privacy? I don't WANT to be on FB. I deleted all my stuff off FB.

Imagine this. Your 4 year old daughter has her picture on FB....their recognition software identifies her.... Now Chester the molester comes along...he takes your kids picture at the bus stop...uploads to FB....and voila now he knows all about your little kid. And with the status updates that too many people do will now know what park she's going to be at and when......

Eff facebook.

so who are the idiots in this scenario...Facebook....or the people who post their 4 year olds picture w/ an update of her whereabouts at all times.....

I'm not a big Facebook fan by any means....I have an account so I know what its like since my kids are into it.....and we didn't let either of them join without us having access to their accounts.

I've touched base w/ some people who I haven't seen in years through it which is OK....but anybody that dumps there entire personal life's information into it is an idiot.

Hey, if it wasn't for facebook...we wouldn't have the Rebirth of Betty White

I missed the whole Facebook craze, and now refuse to join.

It started for college kids now senior citizens have their own fb page.

I work with a lot of college kids that are fb obsessed, it's crazy how often the update it and keep tabs on people.

I think that's very big policy mistake their making.

It will lose it's popularity just like myspace did once something better comes around.

Careful what and who you post.

So lets say I don't wish to be on Facebook at all....and someone posts my or my kids picture on there...could that person be sued for invasion of privacy?

Probably not, unless there is a direct link between the picture and some of your personal information.
I would still be concerned if ANYONE took my pircture without my consent. In this age where it's your responsibility/fault if someone else uses you photo/name/info WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT, I may have to pull a paparazzi attack on the next person that takes my picture without permission and a waiver!

OK, so I don't get my picture taken often....what else do I have to look forward to since I'm not on FB?

If I were you Salty, I'd be worried. I remember a picture of you and someone, I think at Plugfest..........might just go viral

Frasier: Niles, I’ve just had the most marvelous idea for a website! People will post their opinions, cheeky bon mots, and insights, and others will reply in kind!

Niles: You have met “people”, haven’t you?

How'd they get your picture......if you are hanging out in a public park and someone takes a picture of the park and posts it......is that invasion of privacy?

Are you ready to sue you mother because Grandma posted pics of her Grandchild's B'day party on her Facebook page?

If someone grabs a pic off of S-B of you holding a nice fish and posts it on their Facebook page, who's at fault.....S-B or You for posting a pic on the internet for the world to see.

Not as easy as just saying...I don't want to be on Facebook.

And did you have an account on facebook and then pull it.....guess what....too late....you are out there..... and you agreed to the "Terms of Use" for the site...its like virginity....there's no "Un-Do" button

Question

I'm on just to keep an eye on my Grandkids.
Doesn't the privacy setting allowing only friends to see
your posts and pics protect you unless someone hacks you?

As I understand it , taking pictures of anyone in public is legal. You can't peak through their bedroom window etc but outside or in a public area as I understand it , you can pop pictures all you want.

I don't do facebook and in fact I'm having second thoughts about the whole linkedin thing too. Social media is a nice friendly sounding way of ushering in what was written about as horrific in the book "1984".

It's pretty simple.

Set you're profile to private or just don't use it. If your friends can't tell its you via you're default photo then they aren't you're friends.

Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I'm the Dude, man.

Also, if you aren't on facebook, I don't think somebody can "tag" you in a photo on facebook. So you would still be on there, but I don't think your name can be tagged with the photo.

I think way to much is made of facebook most of the time, just be smart about what is on there and you will be fine. Speaking of that, I should check in periodically to make sure none of my friends tagged some old photos of me!
