coyotes

I awoke to the sound of my wife screaming that something was attacking our dog in the back yard. It was still dark out, but I could see two coyotes working in tandem to get at him, one in front and one in back.

I didn't have time to put "any" clothes on, or shoes, just ran right out the door. Saved him this time but they will be back I'm sure. Got my 22 ready for them when they return...and the dog cannot go out unattended anymore.
My wife was very happy that I got to him in time but now she is calling me "the streak" a skinny old white one she added.

Bob, it is open season until March 7. Get an electronic call set up 1/2 hour before sunrise and bring them in.... Years ago I helped a friend cull out his farm in Vermont with long gun. "Rabbit in distress" call worked for us, but we were taking 150-200 yard shots. Sounds like you can get them in quite a bit closer.... Triple points if you take one down while shooting naked.

Just keep running around the yard....

No...no pictures ... keep in mind it was very very cold so some shrinkage may have occurred.

I have been keeping the bathroom window open with a pillow blocking the cold air....to be quietly removed for a clear shot.
Done this before for woodchucks that destroyed my garden. They head for the woods at the slightest noise.

Dad...I have heard that expression before ...is it something from a movie or is it something a drill instructor makes you repeat when you call your weapon a "gun"?

this happened to me too but i had underwear on....
it was a huge commotion of snarling

i couldn't see a thing... pitch black and i was swinging a big stick
screaming and yelling thinking my dog was being torn apart
that's how it sounded to me
thankfully it was the reverse

Please skippy...don't hold back. Lavish us with whatever you got.

That line was something I heard years before that movie came out....think it was something a friend told me upon his return from boot camp back in the sixties.

Yeah Raven it was really dark... couldn't see where the coyotes ran to, cause I just kept my eyes focused on my little white dog, he's only 22 lbs. they could have easily ran off with him. Glad that your dog put up a fight, mine thought they were there to play.

This is My Rifle

Mark Maysey

Back in 69, I didn't have a care
Before they called my number, I chopped of all my hair
Said goodbye to mamma, dad and uncle Dan
Boarded an airplane and headed off for Nam
He called us to attention as we stepped off the plane
Checked us off a list as he called out our names
Then he picked up his rifle and raised it in the air
Grabbed his crotch with his other hand as we all stood and stared
He said...

Chorus
This is my rifle
This is my gun
One is for killing
The others for fun
So until this war is over
Or until your time is done
This is your rifle and this one is your gun

Thirty years have passed since I stepped off that plane
The nightmares haven't ended and neither has the pain
I've drank my share of liquor and smoked my share of grass
But I can't unload the memories or these few words from my past

Repeat Chorus

Well, a dear friend of mine finally called it quits
They found him one cold morning laying in a ditch
A bullet through his brain, his rifle at his side
And one old rusted dog tag from 1969

When they turned his body over they found his written note
It wasn't but a few lines, but the last he ever wrote
And when they laid him in his grave on that cold December day
I took those words he'd written and I began to play

Repeat Chorus

Back in 69, I didn't have a care
Before they called my number, I chopped off all my

One on one, a big dog will tear a coyote apart. But it's often not one on one. One yote may try to bait a big dog back to the pack.

Just shoot them. They'll stand and look at you, dumb or brazen, not sure which. Surrounded my last golden several years ago. I ran out and pick the dog up and walk quickly back up onto the deck. The two coyotes just walked away.

my dog wasn't big.... only 60 lbs
but she was a Mountain Dingo (Australian cattle dog- black)
i got her @ 6 1/2 weeks old
@ that age they have stout little short legs
that stick straight out and down

Knowing she had to be tough as nails to survive the coyotes
i would hold her with one hand while watchin TV
and tap her four feet repeatedly on the floor
non stop.... to increase her tactile response

this daily routine toughened her up real solid
like she was made out of oak
she could spin like the turret on a tank
ready to Rumble.... real FAST

after that i taught her martial arts
and i would pull sneak attacks on her
bringing out her toughness so she was all about self defense
and not something to fool with as she was Very Adept.

i remember running her to the bathtub to wash off all the blood
i was covered in it and she was too
trying to discover her wounds to stop the bleeding
but never found even one cut...

she had kicked major ass and i was never so proud

my animal (Style) of POWER for dogs is the brama Bull
meaning the dog has to be able to rotate 360 and buck
then it cannot be "PINNED" and have it's throat torn out

so i would spin the dog 360 left and then 30 360 right
then follow with a roll over which is followed by
a 360 .... and so on until i would PIN the dog
without a dog jaw this was where the dogs head is held to the ground
for just a moment to illustrate "your dead"

then you walk away laughing ...saying "what a wimp"
this drives them absolutely wild

phase two is attacking any time they take their eyes off you
and are somewhat distracted and not being aware of
impending peril...
teaching: that an attack can come when you least expect it
"Always be ready" "never let down your Guard"

phase three is a full assault at full running speed
from behind a rock or bushes by circling around
and sneaking up on their rear position
forcing them to bolt or fight by overcoming their fear
jumping with legs far apart and arms help apart
simultaneously screaming a big ... growl yell suddenly
shocking their system to always look behind you!!!
