Tailgaters

Is it me or are more people tailgating on the highways to save a few mpg? I get this all the time . They race up and hang on your bumper.

I think people are just impatient.

I tend to usually drive a little over the limit. When I get a tailgater I'll bump it up up a few more mph.If that ain't good enough I slow it down to a crawl, which really pisses them off on a single lane road.

I don't do it to save the MPG's. I do it because everyone else drives to slow.

Just kidding. I think during the summer it's worse because more people are on the road and they're in a hurry to get to their destinations. Most of the ding dongs on the highway probably don't know that "drafting" will conserve a little fuel. When they come up fast on me, I move over and let them pass. Then I hope that there's a state police officer with a speed trap ahead.

When you get old and mature enough to realize that your vehicle is just a means of transportation, and not an extension of your #^&#^&#^&#^&, you do what I do--pull over and let the idiot pass.

No offense, but I hate light flashers. To me it's the equivalent of sayin "get the hell out of my way" in a store.
I see you back there, I'd love to get out of your way, but I'm penned in, so back off because I have enough to watch without you flashing the friggin' lights in my back seat. My.02

what about the guy thats doing 65 in the fast lane and won't budge because thats the speed limit .. Even though there's 100 cars jammed up behind him .. I've noticed lately the highway jammed up for no reason , only to make it up through the pack and find a couple of broads going 50 mph yacking on cell phones . broads ? is that sexest ?

True Karl .. but I think it all comes from the same place .. mostly stupidity.. Not even thinking about the cosequences of someone hitting the brakes.. 100 car pile up ? .. There is a small percentage of peeps I call "Proffesional B Busters " .. They go through life just rattling everyones cage .. might be a few on these boards .. present company excluded of course ..

Wink Pray that I don't win Megamillions

My fantasy: Buy a full frame car and paint it in NASCAR fashion. Then procede to "rub"the door handles moldings and mirrors off of every grommet's car that pizzes me off. Tailgaters, slow down, let them pass the nail it and swap paint. Pass me and pull in front too close give them a bump into the median. Speed up when I try to pass, you get a color change and a free streamlining. Just fantasizing of course, people die from less.

I feel you brother Jake/Fred .. For once it would be just great to drive down the highway, lobbing hand granades out the window ..

When some jerk tailgates me I turn my headlights on.This makes the brake lights come on without having to touch the brakes. It gets their attention.

BTW--if you pull a "brake job" and get rear-ended, don't assume the other guy's insurance company is going to roll over and pay. Especially if there are witnesses.

Gotta love a manual transmission ( you can do it with an auto). Let the engine slow you down without hitting the breaks and they dont know whats going on. i also do the windshield wiper thing.

I am usually very patient behind someone because i grew up in a tourist town and the tourists are usually a bit lost or are sightseeing. Just take a backroad if you know the area

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I had a guy tailgating me down Rt 2 the night after Hurricane Gloria in 1985.
I remembered from Drivers-Ed that you should never "out run your headlights" meaning, you should not go so fast that you won't be able to stop if something was in the roadway - like mature oak trees after a hurricane.
I pulled over and let him pass and about 30 seconds later his tailights disappeared into a downed tree.
