So it happened and I couldn't be happier!

Sometimes the bigger shocks in life are for the best. I had a great run with the same company for 30 years, though completely stressed/wiped out for the past 2 with new and technically challenging job requirements I couldn't handle. Thursday I get called down to HR and informed they needed the headcount in our Betzdorf office and I was terminated and escorted out the door. It happened quick and a little sooner than I would have liked, but I was so relieved and elated I almost went over the table and hugged the HR rep. The "package" is great and I have time and support to think about what the next chapter in my life will be. In the past week I haven't had a nightmare, my stress/anxiety level is non-existent, blood pressure is normal, I have energy and at least once a day my wife says, "I don't exactly know where you've been for the last year, Jim, but welcome back".
If I go on any longer Guppy's going to tell me I've had too much coffee again, so I'll go check out my tackle because within the next two months I'm definitely going to see what this Fall Run thing on the Cape is all about. Hope to cross paths with some of you soon.

Well said Kevin, I had a similar experience 9 years ago, turned out to be one of the best changes in my life.

Enjoy the down time and good luck fishing!

I had been fired from a job back in the 80's and when they were giving me my "exit interview" the HR flunky brought out a box of kleenex and pushed it across the table to me.
I took the box, shoved it right back and said "All I want is my last damn check so I can get out of here!"

I walked out the door and felt like Scrooge on Christmas morn, where the weight of a stress-filled crappy job was flung away like a dirty towel.

When friends called to ask what had happebned, I explained that in very basic terms "The company had overspent their budget for the year within the first quarter and then the market dropped 500 points and they were scrambling to make up the losses. That meant letting people go (at the drop of a hat).

Flash forward a few years and I hear a great news story about the CEO getting canned for stealing from the company (or something similar) and I laughed out loud because that guy was the VP of our dept when I got canned!

Needless to say that to this day I have NOTHING good to say about this particular investment firm, which is just fine as they are now one of many mismanaged companies just trying to stay alive.

Keep in mind that if you decide to get back into the rat race, you may want to start looking before you NEED to, so that $$ doesn't become a problem.
(I've seen and heard too many stories of people that got an "early" vacation from their companies and waited until they NEEDED the money to start looking for a job, only to find that their search was going to take longer than they can afford.)

I am a legend in my own mind!

I can't imagine which one you are talking about , there are like 3 major ones left in the Boston area, 2 of which are almost gone.

Congratulations Jimbo, you have alot of support on this board. These activities are status quo in any industry these days.

good luck Jim
I'm sure it will all work out

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.

Hey, thanks for all the supportive responses. I didn't want anyone to think otherwise by not responding, but my kids did a number on the home PC which I haven't had to touch in years it's about as useful as a rock. New build will be done tomorrow.
I'm quite sure I'll figure something out, it sure can't be any worse than what I was going through, so mostly for my health and mental sanity this was a great blessing and the fact that the company treated me very well, showed me they appreciated my service. I've put enough health issues behind me I didn't need any more. My wife calls me her "house beyotch" when she gives me my next day's todo list and it's great having that responsibility, although anyone who knows the heat and humidity of central Jersey knows even simple chores outdoors can zap the life out of you.
Thanks again.

I hope to kick back for a little bit, but man there's a friggin lot of financial baggage, doctor appointments before benefits run out and paperwork in this "separation" deal. But it's all still good. I pop out of bed around sunrise, no alarm, happy to greet the day. I haven't been that way in probably two years.
