So, anybody here on anti-depressants

Hey all,
Just wanted to ask because I trust most everybody here...Here's the question.
I've been battling Sleep Eating Disorder for ten or so years and have come to the end of my rope. Just heard that there's a new school of though that battles this with the use of anti-depressants, and it works wonders.
Problem is for me that the ex-wife was so hopped up on Zoloft before we split, that she hardly ever talked to me, much less ever spent the night in our bedroom (she liked the couch).
Anybody here either currently taking or had experience with the Prozac/Zolft stuff, a pm would be greatly appreciated.
Before all the HARHAR crazy jokes go out, this has been a bigger stuggle for me than anything in my life. I walk around in my sleep like a zombie and cook, yet cant remember anything.
Been trying to work this out for a long time, and this seems to be a good option.
Thanks,
Rick

Thumbs down please pardon my logic rick

but couldnt you put a locked door to ->the kitchen area....
or locking the bedroom door....
perhaps you've already tried that....
i was trying to think of a non drug taking approach....

i don't recommend you take any drug especially prozac....
there's always side effects.....and they are all bad...

a friend of mine was on that crap....and he couldnt even remember

that i had come over to pay him a visit....talk about scrambling your brain.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the support, but the problem with my problem is that I do it in a complete catatonic state...I can't remember a thing and it happens nightly!
Luckily for me, I don't leave the house!
Been talking to thereapists and shrinks for years; these days, however, they're not treating it as such a fringe syndrome anymore!
Wish I could quit, tried the lock (I seem to open it), tried a bell (I got the door open without it ringing), and everything else...Mom and Dad are sleepwalkers...somehow it got by Mikey!
I've been reading into it a lot lately (not feeling like so much of a freakshow anymore).
Later,
Rick

Sorry I can't help ya!!! I am very fortunate that I do not take any drugs , not even aspirin at my young age of 59 years young!!!!

If you want to be a walking Zombie then take anti-depressants!!!!!

It seems today that everybody is on some type of meds, even kids!!!!!

Two tears in the rotor cuff in the shoulder a month ago, doctor says: do ya want a silicone shot : No Way!!!! Do ya want to operate: Not unless I have to!!! Hopefully will heal in the next year!!! did the other shoulder two years ago!!! Healed by it self!!!

Rickbomba!! bite the bullet and get on with your life!!!

And do not just blame your wife for your misgivings!!!!

Fly,
Not blaming the ex, just speaking about her therapist's course of action.
Trying to get on with my life, just walk around in my sleep like a zombie every night.
This thread was not some sort of poor me bs, just looking to see if anybody had any experience with the meds they'd like to put me on.
Maybe invite me over for the night, and I can show you the problem firsthand!
Just a joke (but not really for me).
Later,
Rick

Have you tried Ambien or Sonata (sleeping pills)? They knock you out with minimal side-effects the following morning.

As for long term side-effects, I don't know.

Good luck with finding a solution, I wish you the best.

Rick, I take it you've consulted a specialist in sleep disorders. If you haven't, then I would urge you to. You have some world-class second-to-none medical care in Boston (Mass General being one of top hospitals, period).

If you think the risk-to-reward tradeoff is worth it, then by all means give it a try. You can always stop. I'm assuming the FDA has approved this medication for your particular condition.

My own bias is that I would rather not use meds long-term. Diet and exercise and stress management can work wonders in improving your quality of life.

But I'm not your doctor.

I pray you find a solution to your predicament.

Exclamation several thoughts

as we are all walking bags of chemicals......................................... first

i always think "first" of a chemical imbalance and how to correct it....

and i'm not talking about FDA approved chemicals...
__________________________________________________ ________________
in my OPINION the FDA couldnt approve themselves out of a wet paper bag!
they also created the RDA (recommended daily allowance) which is so far
off the scale from reality that its not even worth discussing.................
__________________________________________________ _________________
how many times have you heard that an FDA approved drug is now suddenly
being called off the market because they NOW have found that it causes more problems than it was designed to solve......
__________________________________________________ _______________
the problem with any medication is that eventually we become resistant to its effects requiring you to take a higher dose ...upwards and onward it goes
until you reach a saturation point and your liver finally says F U man .....
and /or your skin starts creating these huge poison excretion blisters to rid yourself of it.... then there's the recombination factor when several drugs being taken combine to create a whole new problem....its an endless and futile approach.
__________________________________________________ ___________________
i tend to agree with fish wee wee's assessment except that i would contact a sleep research center that will pay you $$$ to STUDY you while they seek an answer.... make money in your sleep ....and take advantage of it.

Having someone to lean on can be a big help when you're feeling frustrated and pissed, trust me.I've stopped drinking after doing something incredibly stupid last
Friday and my girl has been like an angel.

Your real friends and family will be there if you need them.

And remember there's always fishing to help clear the mind and give you some perspective.

Best of luck to you.

Rick,
Like some have suggested try seeing a Dr on sleep disorders/ they love paying money to people to study them.
I would strongly advise you NOT to take anti-depressants, I have been there done that and that is one route you don't wanna go down.. You may get a good nights sleep but the rest of the day you will not even come close to being who you are...
The side effects from the meds suc bigtime. Worse than those fake potato chips (oily discharge) ... Seriously, I have tried a few of them and none were without some sort of side effect. I took them because I had to, not just cause I felt a little stressed (long sucky story).............
Good luck man, exhaust your other options first, and then maybe as a last resort... But you wont be bumpin any uglies if you are on the meds, like swingin a wet noodle
If ya need to talk or ya got any ?'s shoot me a pm or something.....

Used hard and put away dirty....

Cool

Sorry, I have no experience with the meds, although there have been times when I know that they would have helped. One of my brothers used to sleepwalk and would carry on a conversation only to deny saying anything of the sort the next day. It went away when he quit drink and drugs and refocused his life. I'm sure that's only one of many reasons for this and I make no assumption towards you. Was just him. I gotta hand it to you or anyone else who looks your personal demons in the eye and goes after them. Idunno, just trying to express my support. Best of luck to you. See ya at the Race this year?

Hey Rick, sorry to hear about your sleep problem. I might have missed it if someone else suggested it, but have you considered hypnosis? This works for some people for curing different vices and ailments. Don't know how it works on the subconscious, but it's certainly not intrusive or involves any drugs.

I was born 1/2 of one and worked the other half in .

stop drinking and see where that takes you . Meds are bad news , cause more problems in most than they started out with .

And maybe just maybe is time to get a new career !
get time with a pro and the best you can , lots of quackers out there just waiting to make someone even more crackers .

first Try the Dads suggestion if for no other reason , than to see if its your trip . Of course if you have enjoyed the services before . Nevermind !
