Trimming The Fat?

So with rising fuel costs and the rising costs of everything else as a result of the rising fuel costs.....where are you trying to save a few bucks? What type of things are you cutting out or canceling to try and lessen the impact of the rising cost of living???

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

In answer to my own question, we have cut back on our cable bill by canceling HBO. With all these stations on TV my Wife and I find ourselves on a nightly basis commenting on how there is never anything on television......so it made sense. Trying to consolidate any trips made in the car or to the store by making one trip to do many things instead of going out 3-4 times a day to do these same things!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I'm trying to buy more Italian rather than English benchgrade shoes

But seriously, I have become better at the grocery store to not buy stuff like soda when it's not on sale, and to make better use of the food we have rather than waste things. Also try to drive less for non-business stuff.

But no major changes yet. We don't live all that large and are fortunate that there's enough slack to work things out.

I'm going to cut back on showering to once a week in order to save on hot water usage.
Or maybe we'll start bathing and sharing the same water when the previous person is done.

I buy less wooden plugs

Some of what spence said; we definetly buy more of what is on sale/generic brands (anyone else notice there are less items on sale at S&S?), driving less, biking to work more. I usually put 50.00 in my truck, and try to make it last a week. My commute is short, and if I bike to work 1-2x a week it strecthes it further...

Eat what's on sale, dine out less (read never), cut back on utilities, shorter showers, less AC, combine trips, window shades to help keep heat out, mow with push reel mower picked up for free at transfer station and tuned up

been biking to work every day it's 8 miles round trip so I figure I'll get some exercise along the way too.

I just looked at my oil tank, 1/4 tank left so I'm cutting the fat by driving less and being a home body. Now it's more freshwater fishing and catching bait size fish, it aint all that bad, plus time with the kids is fun, yesterdays catfish was a big hit with my son and his buddy.

I will just work harder and earn more money. As for cutting back, I am pretty frugal to begin with, so I dont think i need to change anything.

Watching the speedometer. Usually drive the car 70 mph/plus highway and get around 29 mpg.

Dropping to a hair less than 60 mph gives me 31 and 55 mph gives 33.

Alot of people have slowed their speed and you don't risk getting your mirrors blown off at 60, at least on weekends.

Hard to stay in the right lane though.

Don't wanna know what the truck gets.

I've cut back on eating at places like Applebees or Chilis - fifty bucks for hamburgers, fajitas and sodas is a waste.

Mostly at the Grocery store. I ditched shaws for Market basket. But I'll still shell out the bread for fuel to get to ye olde fishing hole without blinking. I just fish longer, make it more worthwile. Fortunately, I am able to take the T or bike to work.

Expanded the garden, growing more veggies and planting rotating crops so I can go into the fall. Water each plant individually not with the sprinkler. Major one is getting my ladies to cut back on shower and hair dryer time. Don't water the grass.

I'm not doing anything. I'm spending my kids inheritance. When it's gone, it's gone!
Just spent a week on Maui and spend a fortune. Don't care. 40th anniversary and how many stay married to the same woman for 40 years. Fished for Ahi yesterday and caught a 50# yellowfin. WOW!!!!

No boat, back in the suds.

Nothing, except we've missed more weekends at the Cape already that we have in the last 15 years...put together. We don't go out to eat because Jenn is a better cook than nearly all so-called chefs, no kidding, just look at me. We buy things on sale or store brands already. I've found some store brands to be superior products to the nationally advertised dreck. No really serious changes, but I'm sure they're coming. I'll probably revert to our early married years of 35 years ago, freezing fish, clams and game. Picking and preserving beachplums and blueberries. Back to the land ..again.

No more beer, booze or dinners out and our economic stimulus check is going in the oil tank.

Drycleaning no more.

Cancelled our vacation to Aruba, now just hanging around home (which I'm fine with).

My goal in life is to be the kind of man my dog thinks I am.

Typically we only dine out at either really nice places or really homey. Most of the food at the franchise eats like Joe mentioned above simply aren't worth the money.

That being said, when I cook at home it's not much of a savings

I saved the cost of 80+ miles of gas to the Saltwater Edge by taking the RIPTA for a total of $3.20.
The experience was different.

Don't drive my 4 Runner over 60 mph. Cruise control all the way. I started coasting to stop signs. I've seen a huge difference in consumption. I used to get around 230 miles before the gas light. The other day I got 280 miles.

My friend and I alternate driving when we fish.

Won't be doing any Montauk trips, which is good anyway because it makes me fish my home waters more.

Started making my own plugs in the winter, which saves a ton.

Sold almost all of my beachmasters (except a few).

Drive my wife's pontiac sunfire more often when we go out.

Put the A/C on energy save mode.

That's about it. I think it is going to get far worse in the years to come. Wait till oil production starts to decrease, which some say will begin in the next 15 to 20 years. We will be seeing gas at over 10 dollars a gallon, not to mention more global conflict over oil resources.

EOQ revenue for alot of domestic companies appear to be lower than guidance. Expect more bad news the next few weeks.

Found a good solution for that one, give them 10 min then go in the cellar and turn off the hot water.

Works like magic.

Run the dishwasher and washing machine after 9pm and before 9am when rates are cheaper.
