Danny surface plugs

Anybody tried trolling these off a yak? How'd they work for ya?

Also anybody tried using a planer board off a yak?

I'm planning on trying both this season, maybe together. I'm thinking that the boards will let me fish shallow flats etc. without a lot of line out and without spooking the fish by paddling over them.

I haven't tried planer boards, but trolling Dannies can be killer.

One thing about the vineyard....

I have not used planer boards , but I have trolled dannies and joined danny plugs. Out here on the island I have noticed that I can't just slowly creep up the coast and troll or blind cast, it spooks way to many fish and the absolutley disappear.

I swing out a few hundred yards offshore and work my way in slooooooowwwwly and quietly. At times, fish are much, much closer than you think .

I don't troll dannys b/c it's so dam hard to go that slow for them to work properly. I will either cast and retrieve them or use something more stable on the troll...like a soft bodied shad jig with various weights of lead head to control the depth. A 6" sluggo trolled very slowly with a good distance of line out can be very deadly in 2-4" of water.
