Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.

I fished hard for years 4-5 nights a week...no can do anymore. My wife got resentful, but she was a good sport for the first few years. It takes a toll and you'll hear many stories of lost marriages, jobs, neglected house projects etc. One good thing about your fishing is that you go in the morning before work! It's the being "junk" part they can't stand. The Dragonlady use to love and torture me when I was junk.

I'm lucky, and spoiled.... Guys who have been to my house know it too. Lunches always packed for me and crew. Meals when we get back. When I go on other boats offshore, I always offer to chip in for fuel, but am refused as they want "me" to do the food. She has been to the Vineyard with me for a week during the Derby, and has no problems with any of the trips I've done ie. Cutty, etc. She doesn't fish. Didn't get out on the boat once this year. Fair skinned and avoids the sun...
Only thing she resents is when the boat comes out of the water, because I'm around on "her" weekends..... Heck, she recently took a PT job at Macy's for the holiday season, I think because I'm around and not out fishing!

Now my ex-wife, that woulda been a horse of a different color.... Too bad it took me 'til my late forties to get it right. Gotta love that girl!

I've said it before...seems like every presentation I've seen by a sharpie has the phrase "Ex-Wife" in it somewhere....

I'll finish this line with "she loves to shop". So we have I deal: she doesn't complain about my fishing, maybe gets to eat some fresh fish, or go fishing and I don't complain or go shopping. Works out great!

It does come down to being supportive of each other and your interests! If you can't fish as much....she can't shop as much!!

Our talk didn't come at the end of the season... there are typically a series of 2-3 "talks" (read: arguments) throughout the season.

Hardest part for me is the kids (1 1/2 year old and 3 1/2 year old and one coming in February). Wife works too so a lot of priorities come before fishing. Too young to bring them fishing on the boat but the 3 1/2 year old loves freashwater!

I feel guilty about fishing sometimes (not as guilty about being away from my wife so much as being away from the kids)

Wife is supportive, never had a "talk" but more a "look" when I say I'm going.

Andy,
I gotta say I read this and laughed. It is a very tough balance, and while I haven't gotten the full talk it certainly was clear that even when I was "junk" it didn't slow things down around here. She is really cool with me fishing for the most part but I also don't go as much as I dream too. You know I always went thursday nights - basically because that was her TV night with a ton of shows that i could care less about on so she relaxed on thursdays and so did I. So if anyone works in the TV industry please put vampire shows and those model shows on few other nights - preferably around all the new moons from May - Nov I would be set!

Never got the talk.
Never get the lunch.
Never want her to fish with me and I think I'm in the majority.
Make sure the family is your priority and things will work out fine.Projects can wait for winter most of the time.Fish just are not that important but I fish a lot.If I were to ever get an ultimatum,I would be a fool to choose fishing.Part of the reason I'm still in love is because I don't get no chit for fishing.I guess that's why I enjoy what I have.

Exclamation well............ :o)

Ross, i think a moonlit romantic cruise should be on your
list next year during a very unusual calm beautiful night.
=============================================
GUYS, the Best advice is to say:

i do my very best thinking when i'm out fishing

some people do it when driving.........

others do it while riding a bike........

some people think best in the shower

for me,
it's when i'm fishing and many times i'm thinking
about you "Honey"
followed by a big "longer than usual hug and a slow kiss!
~
oh, and don't forget to call later and say
where a hidden box of chocolate is located

Andy, you're definitley not alone. I used to get the "talk" pretty frequently and I'd start to resent my wife until I got out and fished again. This was mostly because when my son was very young, she would be stuck home changing diapers, etc... Now that he's older (almost 6), he has a lot more going on and both my wife and I get out to do what we want much more. I fished more this past season than I had in probably 10 years. My wife and I have it worked out so that I can get out fishing a couple nights a week and she can go shopping or out with her friends a couple nights a week. The one who is home does fun stuff with our son and he's happy to have the time with us. Then we spend the weekend doing family stuff all together. I also get to fish early in the morning pretty much as much as I want as long as I'm home to get my son on the bus. I'm lucky to have a job with a flexible schedule and an understanding wife. If it came down to it though, I'd choose my family over fishing every time. Unless, I won the big lottery jackpot. Then I'd divorce my wife and get a bunch of hot young girlfriends and fish all the time.

LOL. It would be hard to find anyone that is employed, married, a parent, and somewhat responsible, I'll leave out of right mind, that fishes more than me. My wife knows how miserable I get if I'm not fishing so she encourages it. She is a saint. What you need to do is get your wife involved in something. A hobby, business, that takes as much time to do as fishing does. That way she will never notice. Family comes first but enjoying life is very important too so if the lawn doesn't get mowed for a few days or the walls don't get painted right away no biggie. That is what winters are for, unless you build plugs, then you your screwed. I will be getting the painting the kitchen talk very soon. It is all about compromise. Good luck.

Thanks for the sound advice, I have a tendency to overdo things I enjoy. Fishing has apparently grabbed ahold of me and I it. I will cut down and tame the voices in my head.

Does your incessant whining make you feel better? How about you just shut the hell up and suck it up? It's a fishing forum , so please just stop.
