Huntsman's Out

I guess the Colbert results were the writing on the wall.. I enjoy the theater of politics, I find it entertaining, and I really thought he would gain traction...

So what was the ultimate reason?
The frontrunner is a Mormon, can't be that.
'Looks' as 'presidential' as Romney, can't be that
According to RedState and the WSJ he has the most conservative record....

Is it as simple as he wasn't hateful enough in the early running? Or because the 'MSM' portrayed him as a center righty (which on digging doesn't seem to be the case? Or because he initially came out in support of climate change?

Or was it simply because he worked for the current Administration?

So, my right leaning S-B'ers.
Why not Huntsman?

Interesting that the Obama voters have been far more perplexed over the Republican candidates for the last year than have the likely Republican voters

Bry...you probably nailed it...he needed to be more hateful to garner anything over 3.2% natonally as a Republican

“The people that he’s getting his only real levels of support from are self-identified Democrats who are registered undeclared . . . [and] self-identified liberals,” says Andrew Smith, director of the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center. “I don’t think he’s pulling much from Romney.”

maybe he's nuts?

Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said the former ambassador to China and Utah Governor was “proud of the race that he ran” but “did not want to stand in the way” of rival Mitt Romney, the current front-runner for the Republican nomination.

proud of 3.2%(last) and now maybe his "satisfied with Obama" liberals will vote for Mitt?

or....maybe Daddy shut him off

"A Huntsman source said it was unclear whether the former Huntsman’s billionaire father had been willing to pour more funds into a super PAC backing his candidacy but that the campaign had run out of cash."RCP

his spending record and growth of government as governor, attitudes on healthcare, tarp, bailouts, the stimulus and cap and trade and toward the Republican base in general were all going against the grain in this cycle and it is clearly reflected in his results....do you need more?

So, again, he's basically Romney (the frontrunner) v. 2??

I really think it boils down to his lack of negative rhetoric against Obama.

You watch... Romney will move to the center on a lot of these same issues after he wins the nomination. IMHO, he'll have to. if he stays on the far right push he's trying for he will lose a big chunk of the independent vote...

I enjoy the theater of it. Trying to understand why a particular candidate rises and falls.

I can see why Newt and Romney (and Paul). I can understand the fall of Cain, Bachman, Perry... the Huntsman thing is enigmatic to me...

if the roles were reversed, you would be breaking down the left candidates...

not to the extent that we've witnessed here and the lament over the lack of understanding as to WHY?...WHY?...WHY?...won't the Republicans embrace "our guy Huntsman"

He's far from 'my guy'. We disagree almost across the board ideologically.

I do 99% respect the way he tried to run his campaign. the 1% was his backtrack on climate change. Otherwise I don't think he pandered, and didn't go overtly negative to either the president or his rivals.

wow..so if he's a moderate capturing a lot of liberal democrats that are happy with Obama(moderates) .....and you "disagree almost across the board ideologically" with him...

that make you a real left wing nut job...doesn't it???

I mean, based on the spectrum that you seem to lay out in your arguments...

He's not a moderate at all, thats the point. I think he was portrayed as a moderate because he wasn't pandering to the social conservative vote. He is closer to the center on some of the issues you mentioned, but I don't think he was going to pull a significant number of democrats.

Huntsman himself categorized his viewpoint as "center right". Certainly on many issues he has a strong conservative track record.

He didn't play a smart game. He should have known that pragmatism doesn't win primaries, and skipping Iowa lost him very valuable media time that went to Mitt and Newt instead.

He seems like a good guy though, certainly as smart as any of them and a willingness to actually talk solutions rather than just sling mud.

For wrecking the political system as it stands
like a "political terrorist" with absolutely NO real plans
for actually running for president

the same as if 100,000 people
suddenly all ran for president
but did so....just to fudge up the process

now adays people run for president
just so they can get a job as a new announcer on TV
it's gotten ridiculous ...of course that's just my opinion

Raven, usually your quirky for the sake of being quirky.... but that last post is 'spoken like a true #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&' to quote some movie line....

the whole point is that 100,000 people COULD run for president. that's a good thing, maybe one of those is qualified and not a retread from the same system. Otherwise, it feels like the game is a bit rigged...
I don't love Maddow's show, but caught this clip a few nights ago flipping past... (sorry for the ads and length)
Rachel Maddow Show
sound familiar?

What Colbert is doing is pretty spot on, pointing out the fallacy of the the SuperPAC process. My guess is he, and Stewart have the stones to keep at the PAC's even when it is Obama friendly PAC's (Because they can and will). The fact that 'Romney' (or 'Newt' or 'Obama') can run attack ads w/o the "I'm Obama/Romney/Newt and I approved this message" line

the right rails about the unions having too much sway, the left say the corps do. lets get all this money out of the politics. I think most of us can agree with that...

(you'd have to define QUIRKY)
oh and agreed i am always the class clown and always will be...
that being said...
~
it's like when Colbert has someone on his show
he announces their name then runs down in front of the audience to soak up the thunderous applause & glory...
always the self promoter
i see him doing this same "MOCK" running for president for the same reasons...
and he's NOT willing to spend the money or to really try to run for President...
Now a days, it's a billion dollar proposal
with so many strings attached afterwards that it's VIRTUALLY impossible to get a quality leader....

What, you don't remember Pat Paulsen...he ran for president almost every election from 1968 until he passed away in 1997......I bet other entertainers have been doing it long before that

the Captain it turns out of the half sunk cruise liner
was swinging the Cruise ship closer to shore
so his head waiter could wave to some family members on shore
so Now if'n you ever have passengers on your boat
wanting to do the same thing
you can say....NOPE! WAY too dangerous!
you can sink a Cruise ship doing that!
