Portly Angler Challenge 2010 - A/K/A Biggest Loser gets pluggage

OK, we did this a couple years ago and the winner, Zac, lost 50 pounds to win and earned a bunch of sweet pluggage.

I know I need to loose some ^$^#&*@ weight as I was really feeling it last year. Plus there is that whole lifespan thing.

Anyway, here are the rules from 2008. Give me your opinion / thoughts and we'll kick this off on January 1.

Rules from 08:

Quote:
Here are the rules for the challenge.

1. Entry fee is 1 Wooden Plug

2. Competition will be based on percentage of weight lost (Weight Lost / Weight at Start = Percentage Lost) not on actual pounds.

3. To get in just post in this thread "I'm In" by 12 midnight on January 2nd (Relax and enjoy New Years Day) and post your starting weight, A Pic is Optional......its just for reference. If anyone would like to take the "Lady Angler" option just Say "I'm In with the Lady Angler Option" when they enter, then they can just PM me their starting weight and their updates and I will just post your Percentages only at the update intervals.

4. On the 1st and 15th of every month post how much you've lost and we'll figure out what your percentage is.

5. The contest ends May 1st 2008....just in time to hit the Suds. Post your Final Weight and we will see who the Winners are.

6 The Second place winner will receive 3 plugs and the 1st Place winner will receive the rest. Of course the 1st Place guy gets to pick 1st.
Questions?

Who's in?

Weighing in: my bathroom scale sucks for accuracy and I'm sure there are others out there the same.

PS For starting weight I assume you don't put on your heaviest winter clothes, (ski)boots, and a few extra lead weights in each pocket? Final weigh-in being in a Speedo....not a pretty sight for most.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

as a side note for inspiration - last April I was 227, today 176. 38 inch waist to a 33.
Dropped the bulk of the weight in 5 months. Ran 2 miles 5 times a week, cut out carbs, ate lots of vegs and meat. Snacked on nuts. I cant tell you how great I feel.

You might as well donate all of them since you only fish once a year.

Ya Walk....thats what I did. Walked 5-6 miles probably 4-5 times a week. The key is to just be moving.

Dropped down from 252 to 192 by just walking a lot and eating human size portions of food. Went from a tight size 40 to a loose 36 since March.

Drinking a lot of water too......no more diet soda or any other crap. Even cut waaaaaay down on the Beverage consumption

I'm in. My 1st week I'm going to drink until I puke everyday and go from there. If that don't work I'll eat as much as I can everyday and just look at a picture of Rosie O'd and puke. I'm sure one of these tactics will be sure to work I'm really in though (GREAT IDEA)

Key, had you done that 2 years ago, you would have won. Shee it, your half my inspiration (other half is getting into a wetsuit).

Raven, some kind of no impact elliptical or excessive bike - cheap on craigslist. I picked up bike I need to tweak a couple things on this weekend.

exactly! just get off your arse an burn some calories. You have to be consistent and keep it up. I tell so many people how I lost weight and they all say.."yeah, Im joining the gym and blah blah ..." Spending money makes people feel like they're doing something, I want to tell them up front that they will FAIL. The gym is for people to bodybuild and sculpt, not lose weight, its not convenient and no fun going in the winter. You'll procrastinate and eventually quit. Why go to the gym? Walk stairs, get off your butt at work and walk a flight of stairs 4-5 times in a row, twice a day. I go outside to the parking garage. Inside when its too hot or cold. Walk around your neighborhood, just 20 MINUTES until you can walk at a brisk pace and then walk more. Try to get to 40 minutes tops. by some cheap dumbells and do some arm exercises while you watch tv, stand up. The key is consistency, you MUST do it 4-5 times a week.

Time to come clean, Jimmy. Rumor has it that you got into shape not by running, but by doing Jazzercise.

Seeing how since 1991 I've gained 50#s and it really makes a difference I better do this. I used to sink, now I float like a cork.

good luck guys. after i lost the weight, i quit smoking and gained almost all back.

Now I have been smoke free for over a year, and I have re-lost 25 of smoke free weight.

I can't enter the contest, because I just don't have it in me, but best of luck to all. it is tough to loose, and even tougher to keep it off.

Good luck guys. I had to start early after my Nov 1 physical. My Triglycerides are off the charts. Its a family problem. As of this am I am down 13. Dr wants me down 25. My brother is also down 15 of 25.

Lots of treadmill work, no sweets, and man do I miss my ice cold 16oz' Gansetts.

What a republican way of thinking my way is the only right way.

For me the gym is much better, as it puts me in an environment where I know I only have one task. If I'm home I can find 100 projects to do instead of getting on the elliptical. But it doesn't work for Jimmy so it is wrong, I'm just spending money to feel better

Going for a 2-mile run is one thing, get on a bike for a 60min high intensity spinning class in the middle of December knowing it is on the schedule makes it harder to bail, at least for me. The gym is a hell of a lot more fun for me in the middle of February, rather than working out. Plus there is more eye candy in the winter especially in a college town!

Isn't a 12oz a "diet beer", 25% less calories?

Nice reference:

I like your thought process. For now I am having a glass of wine on weekends. I am down 16 and seemed to have survived the holidays.
I feel much better, less carbs is important for me.
