Equipment?

Hi All,
I was wondering how some of you guys without lathes get by making plugs? I have made a bunch out of dowels but was looking for a new way. I have to use dowels, a drill ( has level built into it ), mitre saw, and a dremel. Was just curious on some other styles you might use. Not looking to steal anyone's secrets, just some new ideas. I have caught fish on mine but using the dowels, the plug never sinks. Good for some applications but not for all. Thanks for any advice. Jay

how about You make a flat sided swimmer , it will save You with sanding. make a few and see if they catch fish.
I think You could make a canal type special pencle plug

Drill holes in the plug and add lead, they'll sink. I've done some sinking needles from dowels. You can add weight to poppers and pencils to adjust the action too. All can be done with dowels.
