i know a guy up in maine who gets them for his stove too. a 55 gallon drum full of maple for a couple bucks.

I heard somewhere that piping plover is indian for "tastes like chicken" ..

There is a dowell factory in Westbrook Maine. Back in the early days (60's) they made alot of plug bodies for larger plug suppliers.
They are well known for the mallet handles etc.
I have no contact info but I will will try to find out a few things.

my brother lives up that way.. the company in westbrook is saunders.. they are either closed or going out.. there may be a good supply of wood for the taking.. anyone going up that way?

you find a pile like that, i'll drive the truck.. you guys can feed it..
my big truck would hold a lot of dowels.

put up some plywod pieces and we can fit a lot more..

Wow I forgot about that place. Used to have a friend that worked there in the early 70's and was always getting doels from him to make poppers for blues. I live 10miles from there. Maybe I'll have to see what I can find tomorrow. Will just have to find where it's located. The Striper Maine-iac

Hi Guys, Stopped by Saunders Brothers today. Only open Mon-Fri 7 to 5. No piles of stuff around the yard of the place. Took a look around an didn't see anyone. Gonna give them a cal on Monday and see what scrap is available if any. tight lines. ron

Find out what the minimum order qty is for say 1 3/8 in dia. birch dowells. Maybe we could do a group buy!
