Paint mixing question

Hey Fellas,

I've switched over almost exclusively from my siphon feed airbrush to gravity feeds and it's changed up my process a bit. With the siphon feeds, I always mixed / thinned my custom colors in the paint reservoir each time and went forward. Now it's a bit different that I squirt a mixed mixture into the gravity feed paint cup.

So the question i have is about mixing / thinning paint and storage. I use exclusively water based paint and I thin it accordingly with a homebrew mix. I mix a lot of my own custom colors / metallics /pearls. Do you guys mix up a batch in a spare createx bottle, label and use? Is a custom mixed and thinned color stable for awhile? For example i like to make my own orangish color where I may mix: transparent orange / pearl powder / pearl gold / , how long would a bottle of this made up and thinned correctly be stable?
I'd love to hear how others are handling their paint especially custom colors.

Thanks in advance fellas.........Happy Holidays!

MS

5 years an better..hit on some colors by opps!..never to repete....solids settle to the bottom..no big deal..shake away...put tea strainer on top of the gun cup and pour your paint ..good to go.

MS, what kind of Gravity feeds are you using?

I use squeeze bottles for my mixed paint, after I'm done mixing the paint I take a small amount of panty hose to use as a filter and put it across the top of the bottle, l lay it down flat and use enough that it will cover the threads, screw the top. When you have to squeeze really hard, you know its time to replace the filter. It keeps all of the big chunks out of the airbrush.

Use a big syringe to accurately measure the paint.

Thanks fellas

Mike, I have a PS900, Master G44, and a Peak C3. All purchased as package deals with paint for short money. Up until now I've been using the $10 on sale HF airbrushes

Cool cool

Yes I mix up colors and I use Liquitex airbrush medium to thin, luv it. It will also help to buy a bunch of 1/4-20 stainless steel nuts, use 18-8 stainless. Drop one or 2 in your paint bottle. That way after it has sat for a while, like the whole summer for me usually, It makes shaking it up real easy. Leave them in till the paint is gone and then wash off and add to the next batch. I add them to all the paints I have as soon as I open them. I also use the panty hose trick too .
