Kayak Striped Bass Tourney

At great risk of getting killed by those who don't like tournaments, etc....

Do you think there would be any interest in a tourney like this in the Provincetown/Truro area next season.

Some of my thoughts - early Fall, say mid-Sept., would be combined with a regular boat tourney, as well as a surf tourney. Would be about 10 days long - weekend, through the week, and then a final weekend. Either cash prize or merchandise gift certificate at a tackle shop. Striped bass only - first, second, third prize only, all together - no mens/womens/kids separate prizes.

On the kayak side - maybe $20 entry fee, ALL money goes to the prizes - 60% first place, 30% second place, 10% third place sort of thing. Maybe require x number of advance entries?

Are there any kayak tourneys around, maybe I could steal their ideas?

there are few fairly large kayak tourneys around and I'm pretty sure they are all catch and release, with just bragging rights as a prize. There is the Jamaica Bay, NY, Kayak Fishing Rodeo in CT and then the Mass Bay Striper Shooout

I have fished the Jamaica Bay Tourney. It is catch and release. The way it works is you take a digital photo next to the ruler supplied by the tournament commitee. Bluefish weren't measured, just photographed for obvious reasons and counted towards the "slam" catagory(bass ,blue and weakfish). As far as prizes go it is way more than bragging rights...last year a Hobie Adventure and two other kayaks were given away along with rods and reels and a myriad of other stuff. Your entry got you into the raffle where everyone had a chance to win the prizes. The high hooks were awarded special artwork prizes.

How about the Last week of June or first week of July. That is always when the action is hottest and heaviest for me. Well that and I go back to work in September. I'd still be down regardless.

seals + plovers =

sorry, to be clear, at the mass bay shootout, there is no big prize for the winners (only a trophy and bragging rights), which I think keeps these things light and easier, but there is a huge raffle for everyone who enters.

Thinking of Sept. because their are some big fish (as in late June as well, I know), but also because mid-Sept. needs a boost in the business and a boat, surf, kayak tourney might draw some people down.

Because it is the "shoulder season", I can probably get the marina to give some discounts to boats, who might be looking for slips, and get some discounts from the motels too for participating people.

Thumbs up I'm in!

A kayak tourney sounds like a great idea. I can provide comic relief.

Fred - a kayak - not a canoe!

We have gone over this before - their are certain safety considerations kayak manufactureres put on their product to protect against - how do I say this - people like you?
