Dyer 29

Anybody got interest in a serious bass boat? TAMD Volvo 200 diesel. High (very) hours but meticulously maintained mechanically (with records). In the water, painted and running fine, ready for the season. Been fished for decades, so this is in fishing boat shape, not a yacht, but not a mess either. Not fast....@16 kts, but will get you home in anything, and I do mean anything. Old electronics, Radar, Northstar GPS, Furuno color scope, new radio. Outriggers, life raft. Loads of spare parts. Priced low.

One of th models... The Bass Boat.. looks very much like the old McKenzie Cuttyhunk which was THE BOAT to own if you fished for bass.

I got to wonder, hows the ride in a Dyer 29 ?
LOA 28.3, but the beam is only 9.5, pretty narrow for that size & type of boat.

Teak windshield, flush foredeck. Hull #96 I think (@1973?). Repowered in the mid 90's (as I recall), new transmission 6-8 years ago (with limited use since). Lots of hours, but the majority at troll.

My father's boat. He is 88, his fishing buddies have passed on, he doesn't have the stamina or desire to maintain or run it anymore.
Sad, but such is life. In any case, he is a careful man, bought it new, and took very good care of it.....although it shows its age cosmetically.

The ride is better than any comparable bass boat of it's time, and light years more comfortable than any center console now. Been back from behind Nantucket in 35- 40kt wind against the tide several times (back in the day forecasts were pretty iffy) and never felt in any danger. It has a more of a displacement hull and deep skeg, the engine sits lower and center of gravity is low. Far better than a Fortier for instance in a following sea, and less jarring than something like a small BHM (with a wider flatter run out aft) in a big head sea. The skeg (and lack of any superstructure like a fly bridge) limits roll on a drift. The hull shape improves the ride, but drops planning speed and fuel efficiency some.....much like the comparison between a deepV and a semiV.

Divide the length by three. That is the perfect beam for a boat.

As owner of hull #118 for the past fourteen yrs ,I've found one would be hard pressed to find a better riding hull , and @ 5gph eighteen knts is fast enough !
If thoughts of a new boat arise I ask myself what will the new boat do that the Dyer won't !

Is your boat the former "OB" from Falmouth?
Refitted with a high end aluminum windshield?
He had a big GM diesel in it, does it still?
My father's boat burns more like 9 gph at 16Kts although I think the newer Dyers with lighter diesels do better.

It is listed with a broker in the mid 30's, but realistically my father is ready to take significantly less.

This is much more a bass boat, however, than CCB tuna/cod/offshore lobster boat.

It is the former " OB " Detroit diesel remains w/ low hrs .Upgrades include removing motor, change oil pan ,mounts, installed new transmission w/ trolling valve , air sep added, new fuel lines gauges , cabin sole , windshield , ect.

There's a Jones River MacKenzie around with a turbo 4. Talk about ultimate bass boat ever.
