the color "bone"

Just what color and brand of spray paint (rattle cans) and Createx type paint do most of you consider as "bone", or is a just a range/sample of general off-white colors such as "almond", etc.?

Bone seems more of a shade range. One guy's bone is another guy's off-white (there's a bad joke in there).

I asked this question in the past and someone here recommended the Krylon shade of ivory. It was also recommended to go with the satin sheen instead of gloss. Krylon makes an ivory primer as well, but I found use of that under the ivory paint was a little too dark a shade for my liking; I just spray the ivory paint over white primer.

Goo Goo Man has used a rattle can brand as well (I can't remember the product) and it was a good hue. If he sees this he may chime in.

You can mix your own Createx bone by starting with white and slowly adding small amounts of brown/tan and yellow. Hold it up against something pure white and keep tweaking until you're satisfied.

I find the rattle can answer easiest.

Attached is a needle painted with the Krylon ivory over white primer. It looks whiter in the photo than it does in real life.

I started with brown and kept adding white to get the desired results. I have made actually three different shades that I like very much.

I have 2 cans of Rust-Oleum (Painter's Touch) now. One is called Ivory Bisque (gloss) and it is pretty close to what you both describe but the can looks pretty old and I'll need to check and see if it is still available. The other can is called Almond (gloss) and it looks to me to be more of a brownish grey putty color.

I'd do a mix of some off white, a light yellow, bright white highlights and brownish details.

doesn't the UNDERneath color affect the hue
of the white?

depending on how many coats of course

but i would imagine that painting two exact plugs
one dark and one white with an Ivory paint
would produce two different Hues....

Rustoleum "antique white" looks pretty decent. Only problem is I can't find it in flat, only gloss. I let it dry a couple day s and lightly scuff it with a green pad.

I did a opaque yellow base with pearl white topcoat that looks good. Do a white base one at the same time and you can really see the difference.
