Funny you should say this. I just got a mailing from MXenergy advertising electric rates cheaper than Nat Grid. 10.8/kwh vs 13.725/kwh they say right now.

Our rates in Uxbridge and Hopedale have gone up alot...house is up $55/month now and this is after cfl conversion last year which saved $28/month.

Unhappy

My utility tried to rake me over the coals last month. They couldn't get in to read the gas meter and estimated my bill to be much higher than last December, which was freezin compared to this December.
Called them with the reading and it was $80 instead of the $220 they estimated.
Meantime the electric went up 10%.

From around $96 to $144 here. Amazing....and we STILL lose power! Maybe they should sink the blasted money into upgrades!

Isn't January the month the electric companies make up for under estimating the bill the rest of the year. They actually send someone around in December and find some people used more, and some people used less, and all are billed accordingly, ya right. I know mine is always more in January and I called a couple of years ago and thats what tyhe poor lady who answered the phone for me and the gazillion other customers who called complaining said.

Like Salty has done we're in the process of getting rid of all incandescent light bulbs in the house.

This month's electric bill was just way to high.

Wow, mine is like 220-280/mo.... My Dec bill was $267.
My CFL conversion reduced it $60-70/mo too.

I wish I had a electric bill of 55. You guys must live in the dark.

The breakdown of my bill is like this:

$0.119190 /kwh supplier charges <---act elect cost

misc bs:
$.04717 distrib
$0.02278 transition
$0.00695 transmission
$0.00050 Renewable Energy
$ 0.00250 Energy Cons

total: .11919 + .0799 = .1991 $/kwh NET

How many KWH do you normally burn in a month? Ballpark.... I am in the 1100 range but in July with AC it will push 2100

Wow mine was 79 bucks for the month for a usage of 585. I also have Middleboro Electric which I am pretty sure is a non profit local electric company. The town next over Taunton also has a local electric company and I think I read they have some of the lowest rates in NE. I have been all fluro lights for a few years now too. I can imagine what my boss pays for electric to run the machine shop on Cape, 2 shifts. I think he told me 3500 a month a few years back. Maybe he's not as rich as I think. P.

I used 981 in January, there is nothing on this bill that says it is adjusted. It says actual meter reading, not estimated. Maybe the electric dryer with all the laundry is killing us.

yep
switched to them curlies... but the only lights we use generally are the tv tube, the pc tube, and the fire-light and or candle light....

turning a light on is only for the time needed to see....then it goes off.

nice thing about snow.... it makes it easier to see at night upstairs
without having to turn on a light...
(for a middle of the night bathroom run)

conservative? Absolutely. I think the bill was $ 126.00 which is

$20 dollars higher than usual but we're running the oil filled heater (in the bathroom) .....the thing is awesome.
especially the hot towels
