Cost of pizza

I guess it's been a while since I bought.
I went and picked up for my wife.
Ordered 2 large and did a double take when they told me how much $
And on top of that what they call a large is somewhere between the size of a small & medium a few years ago.
What is everyone typically paying where you get pizza ?

Pizza makers in a pinch over wheat prices - Business - Retail - Food Inc. - msnbc.com

Pizza and beer now cost an arm and a leg - Business - Retail - Food Inc. - msnbc.com

old news, pizza has gone thru the roof last few years.. expect to pay around 17-18 bucks for a large pie from an independent (non chain) pizza joint.

not just them, all prices , for most everything, has gone nuts. and it is not just wheat and cheese prices either, that has caused pizza increase. you can get cheaper, and "deals" at most of the chains, but you get what you pay for..

you can most likely relate, what's a repaint on a car go for these days?
and even in your biz, you can get a good job, or a Maaco...it's all what ya pay for.

Pizza Hut. Good size pizza any toppings , $10 while the special is on. I can get a 5 topping pizza there on a thin and crispy crust ,which I like (you can choose other crust for same price), for $10. A single toppin g large at the local pizza hole in the wall is $17. Special at PH has been running quite a while now. I order online and the pizza is ready when I get there to pick it up.

it's now cheaper and BETTER to make your own
then you have the exact kinda pizza you want.

all the grocery stores are selling the thick and thin
pizza crust pre-made... you just buy some favorite
cheese and tomato paste and have some fun....

Stopped buying pizza back a few years ago. Make my own with a bunch of extra toppings. Three 14 inch home made pizzas cost me about 12 bucks with several differant toppings such as a meat topping, oinons, peppers, mushrooms black olives and maybe some anchovies. Get my3 bags of dough from Market Basket at 1.50 a bag.

To make a crusted bottom wipe some olive oil on the pizza pan before laying the dough in the pan.

Pizza crust is stupid-easy to make from scratch. Not counting the oven gas, a home-made pizza costs us about $3.

I made it from scratch for years before realizing that the frozen dough at the store was just as good, or even better as it's been worked longer. Many pizza shops will also sell dough for a buck a ball.

Only reason I'd make it is to control the flours, a little rye adds a nice nutty flavor without the heavy texture of wheat.

Some dough, DOP tomatoes for sauce, decent cheese and they're probably 6-8 bucks each not including labor.

we could get of course here, if we are making them at home, we more than likely spend as much on ingredients... sirloin steak with carmelized red onion & sliced pepperoncini with a mix of blue cheese, parmesan, & mozzerala. make a scratch dough.. I doubt I could make & eat a 3 dollar pizza

Pizza and Hostess Donettes - that's what turned me into a fat bastid a few years back. A convection oven makes kicks ass pizza.
