2011 Events List: Following Dates and Events are CONFIRMED!!! Start making plans!!!

Feb. 3rd: 6pm - 8pm

Surf Night #1 - The first of 2011's surf casting nights at The Saltwater Edge. Come dust off the mental cobwebs and meet other surf rats to tell fish stories, swap lures, and more. Look for the "Pizza Fund" Eel bucket at the Shop! ***Stay tuned for special guest speaker!***

Fishing The Farmington - Surprisingly few know about the epic year round trout fishery available on Connecticuts Farmington River and yet, the extended SWE family has been enjoying its numbers and size of fish for some time now. Come on down and learn from one of the regions best guides, Rich Strolis, about what this fishery has to offer! Rich will also be holding a tying seminar on some of his innovative streamers that take everything from Brown trout to Blue Fin Tuna!

Capt. Jim Barr - Local fly rod legend breaks down the "other" Narragansett Bay. 75% of this seminar will focus on the the micro fishery of Little Narragansett Bay and the Stonington river system, an area known in particular for its early and late season fishing. Wade, kayak, and deep water options will all be covered. The other 25% will focus on what Capt. Barr refers to as "Special Operations". Basically night time exclusive techniques for monster fly rod bass in Narragansett bay proper.

Surf Night #2 - The highly anticipated return of "Knot Night". Compete with everyone from your 15 year old neighbor to some of the industry greats in a bracket style competition. Winner will receive the most respected status in New England surf fishing AND........

Surf Casting Weekend / 2011 VS Self Service Day - A weekend full of guest speakers from up and down the striper coast as well as local legends Rob "Bob Cat" Taylor and "Iron Mike." Special this year will be a round table discussion pitting the some of the best minds on the striper coast against each other. This weekend will also see the return of Craig from Van Staal reels to provide a tutorial on servicing your VS and VSB reels. Craig will also be introducing the VSM 150 as well as fully dismantling one here in the shop. Other speaker's including George from Lefthook Lures, Rob "BobCat" Taylor

RISSA Show - While we won't be hosting any in-shop events this weekend be sure to look for us at the 2011 RISSA Show in Providence!

Somerset Show - Not headed to NJ? Be sure to attend this weekends in house event!

Fly Fishing - Great Waters of Rhode Island - Local Fly Fishing Legend Ed Lombardo stops by to discuss some of the fantastic waters and fisheries available to RI fly fishers. Ed has more accolades then can be named among which include being selected as one of the 12 best fly fishermen in America for ESPN's Great Outdoor Games!

Tuna Weekend - While we're still working on the date this promises to be one of the best events of the year! Guest will include but not be limited to Cpat. Al Anderson, Basil Papas of B.H.P., the Cianciallo's of Laurie-Jay Charters, Craig from VS, the winner of the 1st "Jigging and Popping BFT Tourney", and others! Tactic's, locations and more will be covered for light tackle, fly, and conventional anglers.

Surf Night #3 - The last of the Thursday evening surf nights, see the guys one last time before you once again become an anti-social creature of the night. Look for a special speaker on early season stripers!

Squid Day at the SWE - Another NEW event for 2011, get ready to fill the freezer with this fun event for the whole family. Presentations on everything from catching to prepping squid both for bait and and food will be offered in addition to special deals on squid gear like the "The SWE Squid Killah Rig"!

Bottom Fishing RI - Come learn from one of RI's best! Capt. B.J. Silvia will be going over strategies for Fluke, Tog, Seabass and more in the water's off Newport and B.I. He'll discuss rigs, baits, seasons and some unconventional tactics to fill the boat. Also look for seminars on cleaning and cooking your catch as well as special tips on catching these fish from the shore!!!

Fly Fishing 101 - Ever been "fly-curious"??? Take the chance to learn from some of the best ON THE HOUSE!!!! Bring your kids as well for a fun introduction to fly fishing with special deals offered to attendees on rods, reels and additional classes! Steve Cook, Corey, Bob Grecco, Brian Patterson and others will be hosting!
