Fly rod carrier

I saw this going the opposite way yesterday and just now was able to google it. Was pretty obvious what it was when I saw it. I t was a River Smith River Quiver. Basically an aluminum tube with a plastic locking rear end to containing the reels on the rods. Great design from the outside looking in. Should be a way to do an similar adjustable design for surf rods, obviously accounting for different reel seat measurements. Not cheap, as the two banger ran around 4 bills.

I've been looking at the commercially-available versions and can't justify the price "just for a fly rod." There are a lot of DIY options online which incorporate PVC tubes and ammo dry boxes which I may pursue, but I'm not sure it could easily be applied to a surf rod in the same way. The closest I've seen for surf rods was that one made by Thule many years ago and it had its flaws. Honestly, I think it's tough to beat a good old ski rack for carrying a surf rod and I've owned just about every surf rod rack out there at one time or another.

Dude Keith from Connecticut that I used to fish the backside with 20yrs ago had made a similar thing out of pvc pipe that u could easily slip 2 10 ft two piece rods with reels attached into it with capped hinge bolted through from inside that u could padlock shut. Was odd looking but functioned well for him on top of his Durango. Last time I ran into him about 3 yrs ago at canal it was still goin strong
By buddy is still using my locking ski racks from the late 90's

I used my locking roof rack for years. I had a Lampson 4 reel and a Thompson and Thompson 10 wt. rod so there was about $800 in the outfit with the line, etc. I could lock the reel seat under the bar. I still have them in my big garage and I believe they are Yakima

No boat, back in the suds.
