It's got nothing to do with the coastwise striper problems, those regs are designed to only affect the Roanaoke/Albermarle sub population that we never catch up here.

I get what your saying.. but if the ocean keeps getting warmer they'll be here sooner or later .. we are already seeing this in Maine with bass and lobster |

Correct Mike. But it is a start to what will ultimately happen everywhere in the coming years.. |

There are non-migratory sub populations of striped bass in FL, so I doubt warming waters will force the Albamarle/Roanoke fish to move north. |

I hope you're wrong. The population (biomass) is no where near as bad as it was just before the moratorium years. If the managers make the right decisions the stock will recover. We'll know more after the May ASMFC meeting. |

I've said it before, but I'm about 99.99999999999% certain that we will never see another coast-wide moratorium on striped bass barring some sort of health hazard. It wasn't for the good of the species which got the government to pass the moratorium, it was the fear of PCB's and preventing of unknowing seafood enthusiasts from ingesting contaminated fish.

I agree with you Mike but, as you said, if the fisheries mgmt. folks don't pull there heads out of there asses, we will see more decline in the population. I don't think the carnage that we saw at the Canal and the SW Ledge is sustainable. |
