really tough call, probably got 1000 favorites but this one is really good. Fits the tune perfect. Starts around 4:50 but the whole tune leads up to it .

this tune has got some really sweet guitar that gives me a smile every time I hear it. Not super fancy but just about perfect.

My picks have to fit the song, without being overly self indulgent. I'm know there are virtuosos with better technical solos, don't care

Killer Queen. Love the tone Brian May has

You're probably thinking of Dangerous Dan Toler, another ABB guitarist who died from ALS about that time.

I saw Mark Knopfler play the Pavilion in Boston about 8 or 9 years ago and the whole show was amazing, but the Sultans of Swing was so good. He went off on that Solo for about 5 minutes and the whole crowd was air guitaring, overbiting, and dancing horribly, at least I was. Such a good tune.

While not my favorite Floyd song, most likely my favorite Gilmore solo starting at 3:17 and going all the way until it just fades away at the very end.

There are so many to mention, most of my favs are jazz but as far as mainstreams stuff, here is a few

Mick Taylor on can you hear me knocking. Not technical but amazing feel, tone and phrasing. start listening at 4:35

the most balls out, aggressive, testosterone fueled guitar recording, ever
22 yr old kid changing the way the guitar will be played forever and filling a 3:48 song with more guitar tricks, technical virousity and aggression than ever before or since

The slide solo at 3:30ish is good, the solo at 5:30ish is just insane, makes it look so effortless. The Stones were at their absolute best when Mick Taylor was in the band. IMO.

I love Frank's playing but I always get the feeling that he is syaing to himself "these dummies love stupid guitar wank so I'll give it to them". If you've read his stuff, he is very critical of guitar soloing and thinks its self indulgent. Did he like his playing or is it just a means to prove himself right? Anyone read his autobio?
