Slipping into darkness

Well we are going into the days of darkness. Already getting dark early then Sunday the loss of an hour for 4 months. I hate so little day light. I tend to stay up late and sleep late so I see even less daylight that the early bird crowd. For some reason the darkness does seem to benchmark the beginning of the nighttime shutdown but in fact 4:30 PM is mid afternoon in June/July.

Anyway psychologically damaging IMO. We should just leave the clocks alone giving us that extra hour in the afternoon.

Yeah I hear you . I have terrible seasonal affective disorder. I get depressed from the lack of light and I am a pretty upbeat person. I hate the winter for that reason, and snow too. Bears got it right, sleep till spring.

I hate getting to work when it is still dark. The only thing worse is getting home when it is dark (soon).

Years ago when I was younger and had more disposable income I would wlecome the winter months because it meant ski and snowboard season.

Now I look forward to ice fishing season.
Something about the potential of hauling a huge bass, pickerel, pike or trout through the ice gets me going on those cold winter mornings.
I also get to enlighten my younger relative to the joys of "outdoors" where there are no video games, no texting and plenty of fresh air!
I always tell them if they want to come fishing that they should also bring a pair of skates, that way they can skate around while they aren't fishing. Helps to keep them from getting bored.

Sometimes they even outfish me!

I am a legend in my own mind!

You do see the irony in this thread...You spend all the Summer Praising creeping around in the dark.....now you don't like it

Well there is the point of walking out to set up traps and not seeing that old hole right where you are stepping, but that's just not being aware of your surroundings.

guys -

ya know those outdoor sensor controlled lights that turn on when it gets dark
and they go off when it gets back to a certain amount of daylight?

well, we have one of those sensors
and it absolutely controls your MOOD

So if you want to feel better ...put on a dark pair of shades
and expose your third eye AREA with Light for ten minutes
DURING the dark time to break up the time period
yep shine a light @ yourself while reading.
that is all it takes.

ALSO, there are lights sold that artificially replicate Sunshine
called full spectrum. Install one above the kitchen SINK
or where ever you spend some standing time.

get to know your (ipRGCs).

intrinsically photosensitive Retinal Ganglion Cells

in your eyes..........

They play a major role in synchronizing circadian rhythms to the 24-hour light/dark cycle,
providing primarily length-of-day and length-of night information
