Anyone travel rt 495 in Ma towards Bourne

I ran down there late today,
I'm doing 75-80 in the middle lane,
cars both sides of me flying by me like I'm standing still!
With gas at $3.35 this week for regular this week and people still with pedal to the floor, not to mention where the hell are to state police enforcing the speed limit before people get killed !

If you find yourself on that stretch going 75-80 and a black Silverado Xtra Cab with a set of balls hanging off the hitch rides up on your rear, just let him on by. That'll be Macojoe. He cruises that stretch a lot and it's a white knuckle ride every time I'm in the passenger seat.

thats my favorite strip.... especially the 3 miles right before the bourne bridge where it is completely open four lanes across. i'll be doing 90+ and still have cars passing by me... i think everyone just gets so excited that they are traveling to CC and let nothing stand in their way. at least thats how i feel and i am so ready for it right now

Question

Remember in the 70's when the speed limit was 75 mph

that was a hoot.... they drive allot slower now in comparison and the braking systems are incredibly better

Last year I cruised along at 80, kinda had to if I didn't want to get run over. This year will be 68-70, no more. 3.43 a gallon yesterday

Macojoe has passed me a few times too, in the stretch between the bridge and 195.

Last week there was actually a radar cruiser on the median right around the Plymouth/Wareham line.

After 24 and all the way to the Pike (as far as I've ever gone on 495), it's like the Wild West. You do run the risk of being forced off the road going 80

I spend a lot of time on 495 heading back and forth to the Cape from exit 9 spring through fall. I'm usually travelling either really early in the morning or really late at night, so I don't hit a lot of traffic. But when I go to work, I take 495 north to 95 south and get passed by cars going 90+mph daily. On Friday, I saw a Statie in an unmarked Dodge Charger with a guy pulled over.

twice a day. Exit 5 to Pocasset. People drive way too fast. Everyone is in a rush. I go 70 and get passed like I am standing still. I see plenty of people pulled over all the time on that stretch. I have been a couple times myself, but not in the last 10 years.

Too tired from working all them details Ron.

I say that all the time when I am on that road. Mike drives the fishing focus same speed your talking about and your getting passed on both sides.

I do 495 from 44 to Marlborough and back everyday. It's the Indy 500. Staties set the pace at 95 mph in the left lane. As long as you stay out of their way they leave you alone.

The beatings will continue until morale improves

Staties do set the pace. Not one is ever going under 85 m.p.h.

There must be a State Police officer reading this board. There was a speed trap on 495 north this morning near the route 123 exit. No one going too fast though.

Enjoy it while you can. We got PHOTO RADAR on the highways and now on city streets to boot. Never see a real cop on the hw any more. Drive along not paying atention to your speed and FLASH, about 3-4 weeks later you get a copy of the photo and a ticket in the mail. Does't get the accident waiting to happen off the road, its just easy money.

I was just reminded again what a horrible road that is, driving down and back from Lawn Guyland. And I reacquaited myself with just how bad NY drivers are.

CT should post a sign at the NY and RI borders---"Welcome to Connecticut--Construction Ahead"

7 mile delay from the CT River bridge to East Lyme, where one guy was working on the guardrail on the median, while 10 guys in safety vests and hard hats watched with their hands in their pockets. Fortunately I was heading the other way.

Tonight on the way home I hit the New Haven gridlock

And from the Throggs Neck to NH, enough bumps to launch a small car into orbit--it's not even a waste of GOOD asphalt.

I was driving amongst some of the 90mph club tonight. Somehow, I seemed to get ahead of them again because they misjudged their closin speed and boxed themselves in behing some real slowpokes , the 60mph club. must have happened a dozen times, sometimes the same guy over again. Speed doesn't necessarily win races.

Now that you mention it, I noticed the blackened rims tonight, myself. Newer vehicles, fairly clean except for the front rims.
Cruise control and I are partners again. It's made a difference of 1/4 tank of gas in my roundtrip rum of 288 miles. Thats real American money these days.
