Burple or Black spice up

I am making a run of needles and am going to make a few in black or burple. Any ideas out there on how to spice up a black plug. When I have done burple in the past they look dull. I know that all black catches but I want to do a color that will catch my eye also. I am going to use red glitter in the etex coat other than that I am open for suggestions.

your trying to catch the Fish's eye....

look to nature for your pattern's and ideas

In most cases nature "breaks up" the color or
creates a camouflage coloration that hides them
from their predators....

that's why Fish have other senses that detect bioelectric signals
smell and /or feel vibrations or hear vibrations....

  • Second for wine red (if pbadad meant black over red.) The "Red Shad" Slug-Go color can be uniquely deadly on certain nights.
  • Metallic black looks pretty cool too. Createx has it in their Kustom Color line, or you could probably find the Plaid/Folk Art version locally; alternatvely, Rust-Oleum has it in a rattle can. Use of the rattle can might be easiest if you're just going with the solid color, but you should know that you really need to spray a clear lacquer coat over it before E-texing or you're likely to have pitting problems.
  • Last suggestion is Rust-Oleum ColorShift. This is an interference paint that really gives off a unique sheen over black paint. Ditto on need for a clear lacquer coat before E-texing...not sure why these paints affect the epoxy topcoat so much, but they nearly always do -- no matter how long you let them dry.

I'm a big fan of holographic glitter and then some detail work (scales/pattern/stripes) with interference blue-violet or green-violet.
Really adds depth to a plug and keeps me from getting bored when painting as black is always my most prolific producer color wise.
Best

Yes, I use either golden or jacquard....that could be spelled incorrectly. I'm moving most of my paint to Golden...more expensive than createx but a quality product.

This is Golden's green-blue color interference shot over rusto 2X flat black. Hard to pick up the color change in the pic but it's a neat look and like others said it spruces up plain black.
