Rivers End Striper Surf Day 2019 - March 9

Got the ok from John to post this event. It should be a great time as always, I hope to see everyone there!

Quote:
Each spring there are several events which, once they pass, each get us one step closer to the official beginning of the open water fishing season. There is the final fishing show of the winter, bumping your clock forward by one hour, and, of course, the annual Striper Surf Day at Rivers End Tackle (440 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, CT.)

This year’s Striper Surf Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, from 10 AM to 4 PM. This is a great day to hang out, take in a seminar or two and share some stories with fellow surf rats as we collectively fight off the final symptoms of cabin fever. There will be some great speakers, factory reps, sales, raffle prizes, great food and good friends. As always the food, parking and entry is FREE!

FEATURED SEMINAR SPEAKERS

Pete Utschig – Comanche Surfcasting member and Lamiglas/Van Staal pro staffer, Pete Utschig will be holding an interactive video-based seminar reviewing the 2018 striped bass fishing season with some highlights from the Comanche Surfcasting adventures surf fishing Mexico and Florida too. Pete will go over some of the techniques that helped put big fish on the sand for them in 2018.

Dave Pickering – Stripers on Artificials - This new show for 2019 will focus on casting artificials from shore and boat for striped bass. Such lures as topwater plugs, swimmers, metal, plastics, float fishing and jigs will all be included with an emphasis on “matching the hatch”, or imitating the prevalent baitfish. The show will discuss some of the best seasonal lures and how to fish them. The show will also outline timetables for fishing the migrations of spring and fall as well as fishing the best summer locations. False albacore fishing from shore will also be covered.

HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATIONS & TACKLE REPS

Bill Delizio – Bill is the former long-time president of the Connecticut Surfcasters Association. Bill is an accomplished plug builder and will be offering free re-wiring of one wooden plug which you can bring in. Bill will also be loading Red Fins purchased at the show for free. Look for Bill at the Connecticut Surfcasters booth where you can also join the club or renew your membership.

Toby Lapinski – Toby will be showing how he rigs eels with 2 hooks as well as on jig heads with an emphasis on simplifying and speeding up the process. He will also discuss the particulars of fishing these deadly striped bass baits.

Expect to see a variety of reps from the leading manufacturers in the surf fishing industry including Tsunami, St. Croix, Pure Fishing (Penn), Northbar Tackle, Cobra Baits and more.

One of the highlights of the day is always the awesome raffle prizes. There will be some great rods, reels and lures from a variety of manufacturers given away for free, so be sure to stick around until the end of the day to claim your prizes. As always this event is free and open to the public, so don't miss it!
